Amels Launches 77m Luxury Expedition Yacht La Datcha

Damen's luxury yacht builder Amels has launched a new 77-meter expedition yacht La Datcha.La Datcha’s emergence from her building hall in the Netherlands this week marks the start of the final stages of her build process before she heads on a global charter itinerary which is set to include heli-skiing in Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands and dive adventures off Papua New Guinea. This a yacht built for adventure – custom designed to explore the world’s far-reaching destinations without compromising on luxury.

AMELS Readies 78-Meter Custom Yacht

The hull of 78-meter AMELS Full Custom yacht arrived from Damen Shipyards Galati on the Danube river in Romania.When completed in 2021, the yacht will be the largest AMELS to date.Currently 13 yachts are at the busy Vlissingen hub of the Damen Shipyards Group’s yachting division, including both the Vlissingen City yard and the Vlissingen East yard.The AMELS Full Custom yacht joins four AMELS Limited Editions yachts, two DAMEN SeaXplorers and five refits.In total we currently have 26 yacht projects underway at both our new build and hull building facilities. Alewijnse Tapped for AMELS 60 Superyacht

AMELS contracted Alewijnse Marine to perform the complete electrical systems installation on the first two vessels of its new range of Limited Edition AMELS 60 superyachts.The 60-meter long AMELS combines innovative naval architecture with hybrid propulsion technology.Alewijnse will deliver a total package of electrical installation and systems integration, encompassing an Integrated Bridge System, Audio-Video systems and IT network as well as the hybrid propulsion system.The electrical engineering phase is underway for the first AMELS 60.

Damen Goes 'Solar' at Dutch Shipyards

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Damen Shipyards Group is having solar panels installed at a number of its Dutch yards. Collectively, the installations will provide approximately 12 MW clean electricity per year.Project manager, Gerard Kornet, of Damen explains, “At Damen, we always take a long-term view. It’s part of our culture as a family company, we want to ensure the sustainability of the business for the next generation. Amels Launches New 180 Yacht

Dutch yard Amels has launched the 23rd model in its Amels 180 Limited Editions range, which has been named Papa.The 55-metre Amels 180 superyacht was the first of many new Amels superyachts nearing completion for their owners before the summer season begins.For the yacht’s crew, the launch is a milestone bringing the maiden voyage closer after many months working together with the Amels team. Captain Paul Bessant commented: “The teamwork here, the way that you feel so involved with everything, the relationship with the project managers. Damen Lays Keel for 77-meter Expedition Yacht

On July 27 DAMEN SeaXplorer marked a milestone in the construction of the SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht at a keel laying ceremony at Damen Shipyards Galati on the banks of the Danube. The owner attended the ceremony and welded the traditional coin on the keel. Following the hull building phase, the 77-meter luxury expedition yacht (253 ft) will arrive at Damen’s Vlissingen East yard in the Netherlands for completion and on-schedule delivery in Q4 2020.The SeaXplorer 77 is a customized design from the DAMEN SeaXplorer range.

Keeping Plastics Out of the Ocean: New AMELS Drinking Water Systems

Inspired by yacht owners and crews and to coincide with World Environment Day, AMELS announced that it is designing drinking water purification systems into all new AMELS Limited Editions yacht projects. These systems can tackle the global plastic waste problem, while providing pleasant-tasting and safe drinking water. The new drinking water system is a great way to reduce the plastic footprint of yacht ownership.The AMELS yard has now designed remineralization and purification systems into its new Limited Editions yachts, to give crews and guests access to carbonated or chilled water – made by the yacht itself – wherever in the world they are. Damen Shipyards Group has appointed Andrea Trevisan as its new Sales Director Cruise New Building, as the company plans to further expand its standing in the flourishung expedition and small size cruise vessels market. Damen CEO Berkvens Receives CEMT Award

The Council of the Confederation of European Maritime Technology Societies presented Damen CEO René Berkvens with the CEMT Award on Thursday, August 24, at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. The Council bestows the award annually in recognition of the substantial contribution made to the success of the European maritime industry by an individual, company or organization. The contribution can be either technological, political or economic. Berkvens received the award in recognition of his leadership of Damen and the contribution this has made toward the successes of the European maritime sector.

Damen Celebrates 90 Years

With nine decades of operations in the shipbuilding industry under its belt, Damen has grown from small beginnings in the 1920s into a renowned maritime service provider that employs 9,000 people. The expansion of Dutch rooted Damen has been global, with growth that can be viewed in terms of its yards, service hubs and other subsidiary companies as well as a globally-operating client base. For 90 years, Damen’s vessel designs have served customers operating on all over the world. Damen was originally established by two brothers, Jan and Rien Damen, in 1927.

First Damen SeaExplorer Sold

AMELS and DAMEN have sold the first DAMEN SeaXplorer expedition yacht. The world premiere of this range of 65, 90 and 100-meter ‘true explorer’ designs took place last September at the Monaco Yacht Show. The SeaXplorer 65 is a crossover between professional technology and superyacht exclusivity; it is proven capability where you need it, superyacht luxury where you want it. The expedition yacht offers 40 days of autonomy without port call and complies with the stringent new environmental and safety standards in the IMO Polar Code's B category. Following the sale, the SeaXplorer 65 is scheduled for delivery in 2019.

Damen’s New Yacht Range Sails to the Extremes

Damen’s new SeaXplorer yacht range brings true capability to expedition yachting, from extreme polar to remote tropical areas. The world’s first purpose-built, Polar Code compliant range of expedition yachts has been launched by Dutch shipbuilder Damen and its luxury superyacht division, Amels. Making its debut this week at the Monaco Yacht Show, the 65- to 100-meter SeaXplorer range includes three designs holding the capability to explore the seas’ extremes, from the poles to the tropics and everywhere in between.

The sale of a new 69-metre Yacht Support vessel marks the next level of development for the successful Yacht Support range built by DAMEN in cooperation with Dutch luxury yacht builder AMELS. is the first in the Yacht Support range to feature the ultimate technical area for serious superyacht helicopter operations – a fully enclosed hangar beneath the LY3 / MCA fully certified helideck. The new build vessel is under construction at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem in the Netherlands and scheduled for delivery in June 2016 – the fifth purpose-built Yacht Support vessel to be delivered since DAMEN and AMELS introduced the revolutionary new concept to the superyacht market in 2009.

Bolideck Future Teak on Deck for Luxury

Standards set by yacht owners for stylish decking that is also environmentally responsible are being matched in the yacht support vessel market. Dutch flooring and decking specialist Bolidt has secured a new contract to supply and install Bolideck Future Teak for the deck onboard a Fast Yacht Support Vessel under construction at Damen Shipyards Group company Amels, of Vlissingen. The durable, lightweight synthetic decking system with the look and feel of real teak will be fitted on the Sea Axe 6711 Fast Yacht Support Vessel (FYSV), a 67m length vessel due delivery in early 2014. The new vessel is able to accommodate 21 personnel comfortably, and has been designed for relief crews needed for superyacht operations.

Damen-built GARÇON Wins Innovation Award

The 67m Fast Yacht Support vessel, GARÇON, built by Damen, has won the ISS Awards of Distinction for Innovation at the International Superyacht Society Awards Gala in Fort Lauderdale. GARÇON came out top of an industry-led voting process that assessed five shortlisted entries in the competitive and broad-ranging Innovation category. GARÇON was designed and customized according to the requirements of the client, the owner of an 87m luxury superyacht. The vessel’s innovative ‘axe bow’ and underwater body shape enable her to reach speeds between 18-25 knots in all sea states…

Event Yacht Christened at Amels Yard

The first Amels 199, Event, has been christened at the Amels yard in Vlissingen, Holland. In a few weeks the 60-meter ship will set out on her maiden voyage to Norway to explore the fjords. Event’s delivery was part of a collaboration between Amels and Imperial. The christening was an emotional occasion, the owner sending his thanks to the Amels workforce who were there to enjoy the moment after many months of dedication and hard work. ‘Second youth’ for Clipper Stad Amsterdam

The three-masted, steel-hulled Clipper ‘Stad Amsterdam’ undergoes a complete overhaul at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen, the Netherlands. The revision of the 13-year-old vessel will give her a ‘second youth’. The work will be finished before the end of May 2013. At the moment the Clipper is already at the yard and all interiors have been removed, including the boarding of the accommodation. All technical equipment will get a complete overhaul or will be replaced if necessary. Also the standing rigging of the Clipper will be renewed.

Yacht 'Step One' Sea Trials Satisfy Owner, Loyds Register

The brand new Amels 55-metre yacht, STEP ONE, has completed all tests at sea to the satisfaction of classification bureau Lloyds Register and the Owner’s Representative, US-based Moran Yachts & Ship. Amels project manager Roeland Berrevoets commented: “This design has now been tried and tested, which means that there were no surprises. STEP ONE’s exterior is designed by the renowned British designer Tim Heywood and her full custom interior by Laura Sessa. She is the first in line of the 55 metres series and measures 660 gt.

Dutch Superyacht System Integrator's Healthy Outlook

Alewijnse Marine Systems, headquartered in The Netherlands, has multiple superyacht electrical system orders for 2013. The company closed 2012 with a strong order book that demonstrates the underlying strength of the top yards in the superyacht industry. As a system integrator Alewijnse works with yards around the world, supplying specialist electrical engineering services up to and including the installation and integration of entire electrical systems for the largest megayachts. The business flows that Alewijnse is currently experiencing bears out the general perception that the long-standing, high quality yards continue to win orders, and that orders for new yachts elsewhere are slowly increasing.
