American Petroleum Tankers Awarded $28.5 Million MSC Charter

Kinder Morgan's shipping arm, American Petroleum Tankers, has been awarded a $28,548,000 charter contract option for one of its MR tankers, Empire State.The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) announced the deal earlier this week, stating the option is the third of the current contract, which includes a 12-month base period with three 12-month options and one 11-month option. If all options are exercised, work would run through July 23, 2025, and the cumulative value the deal would be $136,560,500. The 600-foot Empire State is being used in support of the U.S.

Philly Shipyard Completes Tanker Series for APT

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) has delivered American Pride, the final vessel in a series of four 50,000 dwt product tanker newbuilds for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan, Inc. The 600-foot product tanker has a 14.5 million gallon carrying capacity and is based on a design from Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) that incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability, and the latest regulatory requirements, the builder said. NASSCO Delivers Final Jones Act Tanker for APT

With the delivery of Palmetto State to American Petroleum Tankers (APT), San Diego shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO has now handed over the final ECO Class tanker constructed as part of an eight-tanker, dual-customer program. Palmetto State, delivered June 7 during a signing ceremony at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, is the final vessel in a series of eight liquefied natural gas (LNG)-conversion-ready product tankers ordered by two companies, APT and SEA-Vista, LLC, in 2013.

APT’s Palmetto State Passes Sea Trials

The Palmetto State, the eighth and final tanker to be constructed at General Dynamics NASSCO as part of a dual-customer program, has recently returned from its first run at sea. The Palmetto State and her sister ships are the most fuel-efficient tankers to service the Jones Act trade, according to NASSCO, who built all of the vessels at its San Diego shipyard and partnered with South Korean ship designer Daewoo Ship Engineering Company (DSEC) for the vessels’ design. With an “ECO” design, the tankers offer 33 percent increased fuel efficiency and cleaner shipping options.

NASSCO Delivers Final Tanker for SEA-Vista

U.S. shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO has delivered the third and final ship for SEA-Vista LLC as part of the builder’s larger eight-ship ECO Class tanker program. The LNG-conversion-ready Jones Act tanker Liberty was delivered on March 1, and is the last of three 610-foot-long, 50,000 deadweight-ton product carriers ordered by SEA-Vista in 2013. The construction program began in November 2014, and the first two ships, Independence and Constitution, have been delivered and are servicing the Jones Act trade. Each of the three ECO Class tankers features 330,000 barrel cargo capacity.

Philly Shipyard Lays Keel for Fourth APT Tanker

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA (Oslo: PHLY), held a ceremonial Keel Laying today for the fourth product tanker in a four vessel order for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a Kinder Morgan, Inc. subsidiary. Keeping with long held shipbuilding tradition, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks before the 650 ton unit was lowered into place in the dry dock. Representatives from Philly Shipyard and Kinder Morgan were in attendance to place the coins as a sign of good fortune and safe travels. Philly Shipyard representatives included the 15 new hires that began orientation on Monday, January 9.

Philly Shipyard Delivers APT Tanker

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the sole operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA (Oslo: PHLY), today delivered the American Endurance, the first of four next generation 50,000 dwt product tankers that it is building for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan, Inc. This delivery is the 25th vessel built by PSI (formerly known as Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc.). The next generation 50,000 dwt product tanker is based on a proven Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design that also incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability, and the latest regulatory requirements. The vessel has also received LNG Ready Level 1 approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

General Dynamics NASSCO has delivered Bay State, the fourth of five new Jones Act ECO Class product carriers under contract with American Petroleum Tankers (APT). The vessel was delivered on Monday, September 26 during a signing ceremony at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego. Philly Shipyard, Inc. On Saturday, September 17, General Dynamics NASSCO hosted a christening ceremony for the fourth ECO Class tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT) under construction at the company's shipyard in San Diego. U.S. Representative Juan Vargas spoke at the ceremony, and the ship’s sponsor, Mrs. Melissa DeVeau, christened the ship with the traditional break of a champagne bottle alongside the ship.

NASSCO Delivers Garden State to APT

Marking its seventh ship delivery in the span of just over a year, General Dynamics NASSCO has delivered the newly built ECO Class tanker Garden State for American Petroleum Tankers. Garden State was delivered during a special signing ceremony and is one of three classes of ships delivered by the San Diego-based shipyard since June of last year. “In the past year, NASSCO shipbuilders have delivered seven ships – or the equivalent to 100,000 tons worth of steel,” said Kevin Graney, vice president and general manager for General Dynamics NASSCO.

NASSCO Delivers Second ECO Tanker to APT

On Thursday, May 19, shipbuilders at General Dynamics NASSCO delivered the Magnolia State to longtime customer American Petroleum Tankers (APT). The ECO Class tanker is one of the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly tankers in the world and symbolizes the emerging future of green shipping. It is also the fifth ship NASSCO shipbuilders have delivered in the past eight months. The Magnolia State is the second of a five-tanker contract between NASSCO and APT, which calls for the design and construction of five 50,000 deadweight ton, LNG-conversion-ready product carriers with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity. The 610-foot-long tankers are equipped with a new “ECO” design, which provides a 33 percent fuel efficiency improvement compared to product tankers built only a few years ago.

Philly Shipyard Lays Keel for Second APT Tanker

Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) held a keel laying ceremony for the second product tanker in a four vessel order for Kinder Morgan, Inc. subsidiary American Petroleum Tankers (APT). Representatives from Philly Shipyard and Kinder Morgan were in attendance to place coins on one of the keel blocks before the 650 ton unit was lowered into place in the dry dock. When completed in 2017, the product tanker will be 600 feet long and capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products. The Tier II 50,000 dead weight ton (dwt) product tankers are based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design which incorporates numerous fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability and the latest regulatory requirements, the builder said.

U.S. shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO launched and christened Garden State, another ECO Class tanker due to join the Jones Act fleet. Launched and christened on Saturday, May 7, the new ship, will join the ranks as one of the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly product tankers in the world, the builder said. Keel of First Eco Tanker for APT laid

On Saturday, March 7, General Dynamics NASSCO hosted a keel laying ceremony for the first ECO tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT) under construction at the company's shipyard in San Diego. San Diego's First Lady, Mrs. Katherine Faulconer, was the honoree for the ceremony. San Diego's First Lady authenticated the keel of the first ECO tanker for APT by welding her initials onto a steel plate during the ceremony. The steel plate with her initials will be permanently affixed to the ship's keel and will remain with the vessel throughout its time in service. Her husband, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer who was present at today's ceremony, cut the first piece of steel used to build the ship during the vessel's start of construction ceremony in September 2014.

NASSCO starts Work on 3rd ECO Tanker

General Dynamics NASSCO signaled the start of construction of a third "ECO" tanker to be built for American Petroleum Tankers at a steel cutting ceremony at NASSCO's San Diego-based shipyard. Kinder Morgan Buys Four Newbuilding Resales

Kinder Morgan, Inc. is expanding its growing fleet of Jones Act product tankers having signed a definitive agreement valued at an all-in price of $568 million with Philly Tankers LLC to take assignment of contracts for the construction of four, new 50,000-deadweight-ton, Tier II tankers to be constructed at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The transaction requires approval of shareholders holding 80 percent of the shares of Philly Tankers AS. Philly Tankers AS is the parent of Philly Tankers LLC. Shareholders accounting for over 85 percent of Philly Tankers AS’ outstanding shares have already entered into irrevocable voting undertakings approving the transaction.
