MS&D 2009 Hamburg

The latest surveillance, defence and security equipment is presented by the 60 exhibitors at MS&D 2009, the international conference and exhibition on Maritime Security & Defence (MS&D), to be held at the Hamburg Fair site from 30 September to 2 October 2009. The exhibits include sophisticated optical and acoustic sensors, which have substantially improved the automated monitoring and control technology of security and defence equipment and systems. Thus the exhibiting companies, most of them from the exclusive circle of defence system manufacturers, are contributing to the protection of international shipping. A trend at MS&D 2009 is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which fly in fully automated mode and can be used for surveillance. The exhibits by Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Co.

LRAD Assisting in Fight Against Piracy

LRAD Deployment Thwarts Pirate Attack

American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ:ATCO), announced that its LRAD 1000X directed sound system was used by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force to help prevent a pirate attack on a Singaporean tanker off the coast of Somalia on the weekend of April 4. Responding to a distress call from the tanker, a Japanese destroyer used LRAD’s powerful voice commands to identify itself and warn the pirates away. LRAD directed sound products and systems communicate from 300 meters to over 3,000 meters with authority and high intelligibility through vocal commands and powerful warning tones to influence behavior, gain compliance, and determine intent.

ATC Receives $500,000 in LRAD Orders

American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: ATCO), a provider of directed sound products and technologies, announced it has received new LRAD orders from the U.S. Army and a commercial shipping customer. quarter. The U.S. Army ordered the additional LRAD 500X systems for deployment and for operational testing and evaluation as part of its Acoustic Hailing Device (AHD) program. In May 2007, ATC won a competitive proposal to supply a next generation AHD for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army’s small vessels and vehicles. The LRAD 500X exceeded the voice transmission requirements of the joint project team and is the only device that meets the performance, weight, and size requirements for both armed services.

American Technology, New Navy Contracts

American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: ATCO), a provider of directed sound products and technologies, has received two new LRAD orders totaling $2.7m from the U.S. Navy. The orders were received late last quarter (fiscal Q1) and are scheduled to ship in fiscal Q2. The first order, totaling $2.3m, includes LRAD 500X systems for deployed security forces and enhanced LRAD 500 systems for force protection and anti-terrorist applications. LRAD 500X is the only acoustic hailing device (AHD) that meets the U.S. Navy’s intelligible voice transmission, size, power, and weight requirements. American Technology’s Enhanced LRAD 1000 Selected by Navy

American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: ATCO), a leading innovator of directed sound products and technologies, announced its enhanced LRAD 1000® has been selected by the U.S. Navy as its acoustic hailing and warning device (AHD) for Block 0 of the Shipboard Protection System. The multi-year contract, issued by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, opens the door for ATC's enhanced LRAD 1000 to be deployed throughout the U.S. Navy's fleet. A $500,000-plus opening order under the contract is scheduled to ship this quarter. Developed for military force protection in 2002, ATC created the directed acoustic hailing and warning device market category with the introduction of its proprietary LRAD technology and products.

ATC Gets USS Harry S. Truman Contract

American Technology Corporation (ATC) received another order for NeoPlanar-based SoundSaber acoustic panels for installation in the hangar bays of nuclear powered aircraft carriers. The order and installation for the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) comes on the heels of the successful installation of SoundSaber acoustic panels aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) in December 2005. The aggregate amount of the orders is approximately $405,000. The SoundSaber acoustic panels are a part of a mission critical system for general announcing and emergency notification. The SoundSaber line has passed Grade “A” shock and vibration and received a Common Intelligibility Standard grade of 0.95 out of 1.00; typical outdoor public address systems grade between 0.75 and 0.79.

Cruise Lines Turn to LRAD

BBC reported that the crew of the Seabourn Spirit quickly changed course and headed out into open water to evade the attackers in small boats who had raked the vessel with rockets and automatic weapons fire. They also deployed a military-grade sonic weapon. The long range acoustic device, or LRAD, is a high-tech loudhailer capable of causing permanent damage to hearing from a distance of more than 984 ft. Commissioned and designed after the al-Qaeda attack on the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000, the device's manufacturer, the American Technology Corporation (ATC), calls the LRAD a "non-lethal weapon" with a wide range of uses. The LRAD typifies a new generation of high-tech weaponry being deployed in conflict zones.
