Dead Whale Found in Port of Antwerp

A whale carcass was discovered on Tuesday in Belgium's Port of Antwerp.Responders are working to remove the 7- to 10-meter long whale from the water after it was found near DP World's container terminal. The port said whale deaths in the area are rare.Follownig a failed attempt to get the animal ashore using an AMT vessel and crane, the port is now using Brabo, a floating derrick crane capable of lifting up to 800 tonnes.After the whale is brought on land, the cadaver will be…

Emissions Regulations: 'It's Not Easy Being Green'

Nor is it getting any easier to understand when, how and why to comply. Whether your marine operation is a major corporation or a family “mom and pop” company, the type of fuel you now burn or for that matter what emanates from your stack each day after the burn has now become a major source of confusion. As Kermit the Frog once said, we will now know what its like to be green. Some believe the discussion is a new subject. It is not. Those of us that work the oceans, rivers and sounds for a living always had a concern of how much fuel we burn and what the quality of that fuel was.

Shipyards in NE England Buzzing with Activity

The month of January 2013 was again a very busy month for A&P Shipyards in the northeast of England. Longstone (Andrew Weir Shipping) - undocked early January after      an intensive 12 day programme overhauling the stern ramp, vent fans and      sea valves. The ship sailed away on time on 4th January. Pride of York (P&O) - docked on 22nd January where she underwent her annual refit. She sailed on      the 10th February. The Tyne saw a couple of demobilisation projects for Technip Offshore Wind Limited in January on UR101 and AMT Discoverer. Both projects involved removal of cable carousels and associated equipment. They both successfully completed on time. The same owners have now just stemmed another mobilisation on the Normand Progress.

Freeman Marine Under New Ownership

Under New Ownership, Freeman Marine becomes part of the Advanced Marine Technologies Group. Freeman Marine Equipment Inc., a globally recognized brand and major US supplier to the worldwide marine industry, is now part of Advanced Marine Technologies (AMT). The company was purchased by AdvanTec Global Innovations of British Columbia, Canada. AdvanTec owns the four companies that make up the AMT Group. The other members of the group are Diamond Sea Glaze, Steelhead Marine and Manly Marine. Freeman Marine is the latest acquisition AdvanTec has made in its marine manufacturing division.

Major New Barge Operation

The Ferguson Group, a supplier and manufacturer of modules and containers for the energy industry around the world, has launched a new operation to offer accommodation barges in a significant development for the offshore market. DHS Awards $113min Port Security Deals

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Domestic Nuclear Detection Office on awarded $113m in contracts to five companies for human portable radiation detection systems for use at the nation's ports. Human Portable Radiation Detection Systems (HPRDS) program contracts will be awarded to Ametec AMT of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Science Application International Corporation of San Diego Calif., Sanmina-SCI of Huntsville, Ala., Target Instruments, Inc. of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Smiths Detection Inc. of Pine Brook, N.J. DNDO anticipates purchasing and deploying roughly 1,000 next generation handheld systems and 200 backpack systems through the HPRDS program. The portable technology will be used primarily by U.S.

Odyssea Marine Acquires Vessels from AMT Marine

Odyssea Marine, Inc. has purchased five offshore supply vessels from AMT Marine, Inc. based in Larose, La. The five vessels range in length from 150 ft. to 200 ft., are all DP1 classed and include the Darwin John, Andi N. Martin, A.A. Martin, Taylor R. Martin and the Mary Martin, a Bollinger built OSV delivered in August 2006. The vessels operate in the Gulf of Mexico supplying cargo to major and independent oil companies, marine construction firms, as well as support drilling operations. With the recent purchase of the Lytal Enterprises, Inc. vessel fleet consisting of six offshore supply vessels in February of this year, the Odyssea OSV Division is one of the youngest fleets in the Gulf of Mexico.

VT Group Makes Appointment

VT Group announced the appointment of Peter McIntosh, managing director of VT Shipbuilding to the position of chief executive of the Alliance Management Team (AMT) for the Ministry of Defense Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) project. McIntosh’s background includes a 30-year career spent with Cammell Laird, as managing director of Fleet Support Limited (FSL) – a joint venture between BAE Systems and VT – and over the past three years as managing director of VT Shipbuilding. He will lead the team that has been charged with delivering the design, detailed costings and contractual framework that will allow the project to commit to manufacture. During this time, Peter will relinquish his position on the board of VT Group plc.

VT Group Boss May Head AMT

VT Group PLC has confirmed that the boss of its shipbuilding division is in talks about leading the alliance that will build two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy. The shipbuilder and support services provider said it had noted speculation that VT Shipbuilding managing director Peter McIntosh is being considered for the post of chief executive of the Alliance Management Team (AMT) for the Ministry of Defense Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) project. AMT Marine Building Fast Utility Boat at Hope Services

Andy Martin of AMT Marine will take delivery this May of a 136 x 34 x 12-ft. mini-supply boat from Hope Services of Dulac, La. The new boat, designed by Frank Basil's Entech and Associates of Houma, will be powered by a pair of Cummins V-12 KTA38 M0 main engines rated for 850 hp each at 1,800 rpm and driving through Twin Disc MG5301 gears with a ratio of 5.96:1. It's what this combination is driving that makes the story. On the end of each stainless steel six-in. shaft will be mounted a 66 x 54-in. five-blade prop from Padgett-Swan. Computer modelling has shown a gain of up to 1.5 knots with this combination and the five-blade props over four-blade props. Given the new boat's cargo capacities ? approximately 95,000 gallons of water and 90,000 of fuel ?
