LNG Carrier Rescues Injured Sailors

A Malta-flagged liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier assisted in the rescue of two injured sailors off the coast of Puerto Rico.The BW Lilac, part of the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER), diverted to assist two injured mariners who reportedly sustained injuries aboard the 32-foot sailing vessel Uplace and were in need of care ashore.U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a request from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center at 9:45p.m., Saturday, to medevac the sailing vessel's master, who had sustained a leg injury.

ISL Star, a bulk carrier managed by Wallem Group, together with the U.S. Coast Guard successfully retrieved a crew of eight Indonesian fishermen adrift for over a week after their boat lost power in the middle of the western Pacific.The Hallelujar, a 60ft Indonesian-flagged fishing vessel of wooden construction, had been adrift for 10 days when on August 13th the AMVER vessel ISL Star received a message from the U.S. Coast Guard that the crew on board was seeking immediate assistance.

Resolve Receives USCG AMVER Award

Resolve Marine Group was awarded the prestigious AMVER (Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System) Award for work done by privately funded Emergency Response Salvage Tug the Resolve Pioneer.It was presented to Resolve by the United States Coast Guard Commandant, Admiral Karl Schultz at the close of National Maritime Day and the NAMEPA Safety at Sea conference at the Press Club in Washington D.C. on May 26, and recognized the work done by the Resolve Pioneer under the AMVER system. The global AMVER network is more than 60 years old. It receives locations of the vessels registered in the program and sends vessel alerts when others are in distress based on who is in the best position to make a rescue.

Coast Guard Coordinates Boxship Fire Response

The Coast Guard continues coordinating response efforts to ensure the safety of the crew of a container ship approximately 1,015 miles northeast of Bermuda, Monday.Saturday evening, 11 non-essential crew members were evacuated from the Yantian Express to the tugboat Smit Nicobar and Sunday morning all remaining crew were evacuated to the Smit Nicobar.The Coast Guard is currently monitoring the situation. Coast Guard Suspends Search for Remaining Sincerity Ace Mariner

The Coast Guard has suspended the active search for the remaining unaccounted for crewmember of the Sincerity Ace, Wednesday.“Following the conclusion of morning and afternoon searches by our aircraft and commercial vessels we suspended the active search. This is always a difficult decision and takes many factors into account,” said Chief Petty Officer Dennis Vetrano, with Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu. Bulk Carrier Rescues Indonesian Teen

An Indonesian teen who had been adrift on a fishing raft for 49 days was rescued near Guam by the bulk carrier Arpeggio on August 31.The teen was rescued by the Panamanian-flagged ship about 1,200 miles from his original location, according to an Associated Press article. The teen used his handheld radio to contact the 738-foot ship which heard his distress call, alerted rescue authorities and embarked the survivor. The ship’s crew provided food, water and first aid.The captain of the Amver participating Arpeggio coordinated the rescue with authorities in Japan and the Indonesian mission. The teen was disembarked in Japan and reunited with his family.The Arpeggio, which is managed by MC Shipping Ltd of Japan, enrolled in Amver in December 2013 and has earned two Amver participation awards.

Oil Tanker Tows Disabled Sailboat to Safety

A Singapore flagged oil tanker came to the rescue of four French sailors whose sailboat became disabled by broken sails and engine failure approximately 225 miles east of Cape May, N.J. on Thursday, June 7.U.S. Coast Guard rescue authorities received a notification from French rescue personnel that the 43-foot sailboat Simbad had a disabled engine and broken sails and required assistance. Tanker Rescues Fishermen Who Had Been Adrift for Weeks

A 600-foot product tanker rescued four fishermen who had been adrift for more than 20 days approximately 350 miles southeast of Acapulco de Juarez, Mexico on Sunday, June 3, 2018.U.S. Coast Guard officials received a notification from the Amver participating tanker Torm Resilience that the crew located a fishing vessel with four people aboard. The fishermen stated they had been dropped off by a larger vessel more than 20 days ago and had run out of gas, food and water. The Torm Resilience initially passed food and water while deciding what do to with the fishermen.Coast Guard personnel attempted to locate the mother ship but could not find any other fishing vessels or sister ships in the area.

Amver LNG Carrier Makes a Rescue

The crew of Amver participating liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Stena Crystal Sky recently rescued of two sailors stuck in severe weather approximately 1,000 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel received notification from the Garmin/Inreach Emergency Call Center that the 23-foot sailboat, on a voyage from Cabo San Lucas to the Marquesas Islands had experienced difficulties and lost auto-steering after encountering severe weather. The two yachtsmen on board had activated the emergency feature of their Inreach device and requested rescue.

Amver Tanker Rescues Sailors near Honduras

Chemical tanker Nordic Wolverine rescued two sailors from a disabled 55-foot sailboat approximately 210 miles east of Costa de Mosquitos, Honduras on Thursday, February 22, 2018. U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel at the Seventh District command center received a report from rescue authorities in Panama of the disabled sailboat and shared Amver surface picture information with them. The Amver participating Norwegian-flagged tanker was identified and agreed to divert and search for the sailboat. "We have passed through the distress position and have made radio call outs on channel 16 but have found nothing," reported the captain of the Nordic Wolverine. "We intend to continue on our voyage to Houston," the ship's captain added.
