ABS Brings Together Taiwan's Industry Leaders

Taiwan’s maritime industry leaders met to debate decarbonization, digital technologies and the future of safety at the annual ABS Taiwan National Committee meeting.“As the leading class organization in Taiwan, ABS is able to call on the expertise of leaders to inform our approach to meeting industry challenges such as meeting IMO 2030 and 2050 objectives while ensuring safety standards are not compromised and keep pace with technological challenges,” said Christopher J. Wiernicki, ABS Chairman, President and CEO, who actively participated in the Committee program.

Evergreen Charters Twelve 11,000 TEU Newbuilds

Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) entered into an agreement with Shoei Kisen Kaisha to charter twelve 11,000 TEU class containerships. The charter parties were signed by EMC Chairman Anchor Chang and President of Shoei Kisen Kaisha Yukito Higaki. The plans to charter these vessels were approved early last month at the board meetings of Greencompass Marine S.A. and Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. respectively. Evergreen Orders Eight 11,000 TEU Containerships

Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) said it has entered into an agreement with South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to order eight 11,000 TEU containerships. Four ships will be owned by EMC’s subsidiary, Greencompass Marine S.A. and a further four by Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. The newbuildings are planned to be delivered from the first quarter of 2020 through the second quarter of 2021. EMC said the newbuilding program will help it meet future market demand as the carrier continues its ongoing fleet renewal.

Evergreen Orders Ten Boxships from Imabari

Evergreen Group has signed an order with Japanese shipbuilder Imabari for ten 2,800 TEU class B-type vessels yesterday. These are in addition to the order for ten similar vessels announced last month from CSBC in Taiwan. The latest contract was signed by EMC Chairman Mr. Anchor Chang and Imabari Shipbuilding President Mr. Yukito Higaki. The first ship is planned to be delivered during the first half of 2018 with the completion of the series due by the first half of 2019. All twenty newbuildings are planned to be deployed in the intra-Asia trade. Evergreen's B-type vessels will be 211 meters in length, 32.8 meters wide, and have a design draft of 10 meters with a capacity of around 2,800 TEU.

Evergreen Orders Ten Boxships

Evergreen Group signed an agreement with CSBC Corporation, Taiwan to build ten 2,800 TEU class B-type vessels. Witnessed by Evergreen Group's Second Vice Group Chairman Bronson Hsieh, the contracts were signed by EMC Chairman Anchor Chang and CSBC Chairman Sun-Quae Lai. The first ship will be delivered during the second half of 2017 with the completion of the series due by the first half of 2018. The vessels will be deployed in the intra-Asia trade. Bronson Hsieh said, "After the negotiations of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) are concluded, the ASEAN countries, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand are expected to remove trade barriers, enhancing bilateral trades and thereby boosting regional cargo growth.

Evergreen to Charter 11 Containerships

Evergreen Group signed time charter agreements with Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (Shoei) to charter a total of 11 18,000 TEU vessels, which include the six units of the same capacity announced by Evergreen Marine Corp. (EMC) and its subsidiary last December. The charter parties were signed by EMC's Chairman Anchor Chang and Shoei's President Yukito Higaki. The ships are planned to be delivered from 2018 through 2019. Evergreen said it will cooperate with Shoei to build the new generation ultra-large containerships, which will measure about 400 meters in length and about 59 meters wide.

New Evergreen Container Ship Christened 'Ever Lawful'

The seventh L-type containership for Evergreen Line, launched and named at Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. The new ship  was christened by S.S. Lin, the Evergreen Group's First Vice Group Chairman, and the ceremonial rope cutting for the new 8,452-TEU vessel was performed by Mrs. Lai Chao-Yin, wife of Mr. Shiu Kuang-Si, the president of Mega International Commercial Bank, in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from Taiwan and abroad. Ever Lawful is owned by Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Evergreen Marine Executive Appointments

Global carrier Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. announced the promotion of its President Jack Yen to Vice Chairman. Captain C.J. Wang, Chief Executive Vice President, has been appointed President. Anchor Chang, Executive Vice President of International Business Division, was promoted to Chief Executive Vice President. Jack Yen joined Evergreen in 1978. He has broad international experience having served the company in several significant locations including Germany, the UK, the U.S., and Hong Kong. His senior positions have included President of Evergreen Star Hong Kong Ltd where he had major responsibilities for the mainland China market, and president of Evergreen Deutschland GMBH. He was promoted to President of Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) in 2007. Captain C.J.
