Knudsen Named Pesident, Rolls-Royce Offshore

John Knudsen

Rolls-Royce has appointed John Knudsen as President - Offshore, in its Marine business. Knudsen will transition into his new role through January 2014. Mr. Knudsen is currently President of Bergen Engines AS. He has had a key role in transforming Bergen Engines during the divestment from Rolls-Royce Marine and integrating it into the Tognum Group. Tognum AG is a joint venture of Rolls-Royce and Daimler. John Knudsen joined Rolls-Royce in 2007 and has previously held senior positions in the Norwegian telecom equipment supplier Nera ASA.

Rolls-Royce Design and Equipment for COSCO

Rolls-Royce has won an order to provide an integrated design and equipment package for two offshore supply vessels to be built at COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard Co., Ltd. in China for the Singapore based Chellsea Group, a company in the offshore oilfield services industry. The two Rolls-Royce UT 771WP platform supply vessels will be the first vessels in Asia featuring the wave piercing bow designed to pierce through the waves in rough seas, making it possible to keep a more constant speed, reduce fuel consumption and increase on board safety.

Seismic Research Vessel FA XIAN6, a Rolls-RoyceUT 830 CD design for Shanghai Offshore Petroleum Bureau, (Sinopec), is the first of its type to be built in China. It is equipped with a package of Rolls-Royce power and propulsion systems as well as advanced automated handling systems for deploying the seismic equipment. Built by Shanghai Shipyard Co., FA XIAN6 has been delivered to Shanghai Offshore Petroleum Bureau, which is a part of the Chinese conglomerate Sinopec, expanding its current fleet of seismic and geophysical exploration survey vessels.

Rolls-Royce Wins Brazil OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce contracted by Aliança S/A Industria Naval e Empresa de Navegacao, a subsidiary of Fischer Group, and Brazilian shipowner Asgaard Navegação S.A for the design and delivery of equipment to two offshore vessels for Asgaard. The contract value is about £11million to Rolls-Royce. The two vessels are Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRV), type UT 535 E, with systems designed to prevent damage from oil spills. They have the capacity to transfer recovered oil for proper onshore disposal.

Rolls-Royce Hits Century in Drillship Propulsion Orders

Rolls-Royce's milestone 100th contract is to deliver drillship propulsion systems to a Transocean rig. In recent months Rolls-Royce has won orders to supply propulsion systems for seven new drillships totaling close to £100 million, including options, from a variety of customers including Transocean. These ships will be built in the Samsung, Daewoo and Hyundai shipyards in Korea. Rolls-Royce is a leading supplier of large thrusters to these specialist vessels, with a market share in excess of 70 per cent.

Rolls Royce Gets COSCO Multiple OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce contracted to provide integrated design, power & propulsion & equipment package for four Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL offshore supply vessels. Rolls Royce's  £26 million order is for vessels to be built at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co. Ltd, in China for a Hong Kong owner. The contract includes options for four additional vessels. This contract is the first time Rolls-Royce has incorporated high speed MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series.

Rolls-Royce wins a £12 million order to design and equip two platform supply vessels (PSVs) to be built at Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industries in China. Rolls-Royce UT 755 LN vessels are designed specifically for transporting solid and liquid cargo to and from offshore oil and gas platforms world wide. In addition to the design, Rolls-Royce will supply an extensive range of onboard equipment, including main engines, propulsion system, thrusters, automation and control systems, deck machinery, bulk handling systems, rudders, steering gears and shaft generators.

Rolls-Royce wins a £24 million order to design & equip four platform supply vessels (PSVs) for Brazilian ship owner Bravante Group. The UT 775 SE PSVs are designed to carry deck cargo, pipes and diesel oil to and from offshore oil and gas platforms. They will be chartered by Petrobras. Bravante Group will build the vessels at their ship yard in Niteroi, Brazil, as they have done for previous orders. Rolls-Royce Delivers First Permanent Magnet Tunnel Thruster

Newly-developed magnetic tunnel thruster delivered to Norway's Olymic Shipping by Rolls-Royce for its AHTS 'Olymic Octopus'. Tunnel thrusters are positioned fore and aft on a wide range of ships and provide sideways thrust for maneuvering and holding position in rough seas. The TT-PM offers numerous advantages over traditional tunnel thrusters, including a 25% increase in power output of from the same size propeller, significant reduction in noise and vibration, and can be removed underwater, eliminating the need for dry docking.

Rolls Royce to Design, Power, Hi-tech Subsea Vessel

The versatile UT 737 CD vessel will support the most demanding subsea projects, including constructing and servicing oil and gas wells on the sea bed, up to 3,000 metres below sea level. In order to support such challenging missions the vessel will include special features, including two independent systems for launching and recovering Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), a 125 tonne offshore crane that compensates for wave movements and an advanced offshore tower which handles subsea equipment through a large opening in the hull of the vessel, called a moon pool. Rolls-Royce Wins $69m OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce won a $69m order to design and equip two advanced offshore anchor handling vessels for Norwegian ship owner Farstad Shipping. The UT 731 CD vessels are designed and equipped to handle anchors for oil rigs, tow rigs to location and also serve as supply vessels. They can operate in extreme climatic conditions and ultra deep waters, undertaking precise rig manoeuvring operations in water up to 3,000m deep. They are also equipped for sub sea construction and installation duties.
