New Coast Guard Command Center in Maine
Coast Guard Sector Northern New England officially opened a new 24-hour command center Wednesday in South Portland, Maine.Sen. Susan Collins, Atlantic Area Commander Vice Adm. Scott Buschman, and First District Commander Rear Adm. Andrew Tiongson were all on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The command center is the hub for all Coast Guard operations across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and parts of New York. Located at Coast Guard Base South Portland, the command center's exterior remained the same, but the interior is completely new.
Fifth National Security Cutter Passes Builder’s Trials
The fifth National Security Cutter, James, completed builder’s trials in Pascagoula, Mississippi, marking the next step in preparing the cutter for delivery to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). Cutter Conducts Historic Port Visit in Liberia
The Portsmouth-based Coast Guard Cutter Legare completed a historic five-day port visit in Liberia Feb. 19. With a recent end to Liberia's long civil war, Legare became the first U.S. military ship to moor in Monrovia in more than 17 years. As part of Commander, Naval Forces Europe-Africa's strategy to improve maritime security and safety in the Gulf of Guinea, Legare is part of a unique naval task group comprised of USS Kauffman (FFG 59) and elements of the Destroyer Squadron 60 staff that is currently deployed off the coast of West Africa to strengthen regional maritime partnerships.
