Pavilion Energy, CNOOC Complete First Bunker Delivery to LNG-powered VLCC

Singapore's Pavilion Energy and China's CNOOC Gas and Power Group completed their first liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship-to-ship bunker operation for a very large crude carrier (VLCC) at China's Guangzhou port, the companies said on Thursday.A total of 2,800 metric tons of LNG was delivered from CNOOC's LNG bunker vessel Hai Yang Shi You 301 to the VLCC Maran Dione, owned by Angelicoussis Group's Maran Tankers Management (MTM), the companies said in a joint statement.The bunker operation came after Pavilion Energy…

Chevron and Angelicoussis Group Exploring Maritime Ammonia Transport

Chevron and the Angelicoussis Group have come together to explore how tankers can be used to transport ammonia, a potential lower carbon marine fuel.Under a newly announced Joint Study Agreement (JSA), Chevron, through its subsidiary Chevron Shipping Company, and the Angelicoussis Group, through its Energy Transition division, Green Ships, will initially evaluate the ammonia transportation market, existing infrastructure, the safety aspects of ammonia, potential next generation vessel requirements and a preliminary system to transport ammonia between the U.S. Gulf Coast and Europe.

DSME Honors John Angelicoussis

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has held a tree planting ceremony in honor of the late John Angelicoussis who passed away in 2021.The ceremony included the unveiling ceremony of a plaque engraved with the picture of the former of Angelicoussis Group who is held in high regard by the shipyard particularly because he offered support whenever DSME was in need. This included support through the dissolution of Daewoo Group in 1998, the Lehman Brothers financial crisis in 2008, and the liquidity crisis that continued from 2015.Angelicoussis was born in Piraeus in 1948.

SWS Delivers Dual-fuel Capesize to the Angelicoussis Group

Greek shipowner the Angelicoussis Group announced its dry bulk division has taken delivery of its first dual-fuel Capesize bulk carrier.Ubuntu Unity was officially handed over to its Maran Dry Management (MDM) from Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) on February 28, 2023.The newbuild is 299.9 meters long with a 47.5-meter beam and cargo capacity of about 190,000 metric tons. It is classed by DNV and flies the Greek flag.A sister vessel, Ubuntu Community, is scheduled to be delivered to MDM from SWS in the coming months.

Decarbonization Center Finishes Two Trials for Biofuel Bunkering

The Global Center for Maritime Decarbonization (GCMD) has completed trials on two supply chains of biofuel blends for vessel bunkering, the center said on Tuesday.The maritime industry has been trying to source for green fuels to reduce carbon emissions ahead of the International Maritime Organization's 2030 and 2050 decarbonization targets. Biofuel bunkering is gaining traction in Singapore, with more than 90 biofuel bunkering operations completed last year, according to Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority.The trials were part of a $18 million global biofuels bunkering project launched by the GCMD in July last year, which is expected to span 12 to 18 months.The two trials took place from Oct. 31 to Feb.

DSME Delivers LNG Carrier John A. Angelicoussis

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has delivered the newly built liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier John A. Angelicoussis to Greek shipowner the Angelicoussis Group.The Greek-flagged vessel, which is named in honor of the company's late founder John A. Angelicoussis, will be operated by Angelicoussis affiliate Maran Gas.The ship has a cargo capacity of 173,400 cubic meters and is propelled by two MAN two-stroke dual-fuel ME-GI engines, featuring a full reliquefication system and equipped with shaft generators and an air lubrication system (ALS).

Maran Tankers Takes Suezmax Delivery from Daehan

Greek operator Maran Tankers Management (MTM), part of the Angelicoussis Group, has taken delivery of the 157,000 dwt oil tanker Maran Orpheus, built by Daehan Shipbuilding Co. in South Korea. The Suezmax delivery follows the 157,946 dwt Maran Phoebe handed over from Daehan in June. Both ships are Greek-flagged and classed by DNV GL.Daehan is also building the ABS-classed, 157,000 dwt Maran Aspasia and Maran Solon scheduled for delivery to MTM in October and December respectively.

N-KOM, Angelicoussis Extend Cooperation

Nakilat - Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), the joint-venture shipyard between Qatar’s Nakilat and Keppel Offshore & Marine, has signed a landmark agreement with the Angelicoussis Group of Companies to be the preferred shipyard for ship repairs in the Middle East. DSME Rolls Out World's Largest Containership

Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has named the MSC Oscar, which has claimed the title of the world’s biggest containership. After the christening ceremony the MSC Oscar departed for Busan. The vessel has a capacity of 19,224 containers, and is the equivalent of four football stadiums in length with the nominal capacity of 19,224 TEU. The prestigious title has been taken over from China Shipping’s CSCL Globe, boasting 19,100 teu, which is currently on its maiden voyage in Europe. A report in Korea Times says that it was the first vessel of the three that China's Bank of Communications has ordered to charter to Swiss container shipping line Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

Korea Shipbuilder Wins US$400-M Greek Order

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., South Korea’s second-largest shipbuilder, says it has signed a contract to build 4 tankships for Maran Tankers Management, a unit of Greece’s largest shipper Angelicoussis Group, according to Yonhap News. Daewoo Shipbuilding plans to deliver the tankers by 2016, the company informed Yonhap in an e-mailed statement. The two companies have also signed a separate contract with an option to change the tankers' bunker-C oil-fuelled engines to LNG supply. With the latest deal, the shipbuilder has won a total of about $5.8 billion of orders so far this year.

Bulk Shipping Alliance Close To Start-Up

A Capesize bulk shipping alliance involving three of the sector's biggest fleets may be launched within a month, according to one key player, Greece's Angelicoussis Group. "The momentum right now is to get it finished as soon as possible," Angelicoussis CFO Dimitri Stylianou said. Stylianou said the two other key players would be Israel's Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israel's Ofer Brothers Group, and Bocimar of the Belgian CMB Group. "It'll be a three-way pool, but there will be some smaller players involved too," he added. "It's not so much a reaction as we feel the trade and nature of the Capesize market needs something more organised." Brokers said an alliance between the three would tie up Bocimar's 40-50 Capesizes with Zodiac's 30 and the Angelicoussis Group's six.
