Hapag-Lloyd Commits to EGCS Retrofitting

German container shipping major Hapag-Lloyd announced its plan to retrofit ten vessels with Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS). Ten Hamburg Class vessels (13,000 TEU) to be retrofitted in 2019 and 2020, it said.Hapag-Lloyd has ordered ten Hybrid Ready Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS), which will be gradually installed to ten of Hapag-Lloyd’s Hamburg class vessels (13,000 TEU) during 2019 and 2020. Hapag-Lloyd Focuses on Africa

Hapag-Lloyd celebrated the official opening of its new office in Tema, the most important port city in Ghana. Beginning immediately, Hapag-Lloyd will manage all its activities in West Africa from this location. “I’m very pleased that our enhanced presence in West Africa is showing initial signs of success,” said Anthony Firmin, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hapag-Lloyd. “Our West Africa Express (WAX) service from and to West Africa has been operating with extraordinary success for several years and is very well received by customers. With our new East Africa Service (EAS), connecting Saudi Arabia with Kenya and Tanzania, we have entered another new trade. The GDP of West Africa has grown significantly in the last two years, rising by an average of 6 percent.

Hapag-Lloyd Recycles Seven Container Ships

German liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is sending seven older container ships to be recycled in Turkey and China. The respective shipyards are especially equipped and certified to recycle ships in an environmentally friendly manner, according to a press release from the company. 15,000-TEU Container Ship Will be Delivered to Hapag-Lloyd

Another large container ship will be added to the fleet of the liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd. The “Al Jmeliyah” will be handed over to Hapag-Lloyd tomorrow at the shipyard of Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) in South Korea. With a capacity of 15,000 TEU, this ship is classed as an ultra-large container vessel (ULCV). The “Al Jmeliyah” is the last in a series of 17 newbuilds contracted to HSHI by UASC in the summer of 2013. The series comprised eleven 15,000-TEU and six 19,900-TEU ships, the first of which was delivered in 2015. Following the merger with Hapag-Lloyd at the end of May this year, these units are now all part of the Hapag-Lloyd fleet, which currently consists of 219 ships. This makes Hapag-Lloyd the fifth-largest liner shipping company in the world.

Hapag-Lloyd Recycles Three Containerships

Liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has sold three of its older containerships for green recycling in China and Turkey. The three vessels, Deira, the Najran and the Sakaka, have been part of the Hapag-Lloyd fleet since its merger with UASC at the end of May, and will now be transferred to shipyards in China and Turkey that are specially equipped and certified for safe and environmentally sound recycling. The ships have a capacity of 4,101 TEU each and were delivered to UASC from Japanese shipyards in 1997 and 1998. Anthony and Nicolás Remain on Hapag-Lloyd Board

Hapag-Lloyd AG has announced the continuity in the executive management - Anthony J. Firmin remains COO and Nicolás Burr remains CFO. The Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG extended the Executive Board contracts of Anthony J. Firmin (COO) and Nicolás Burr (CFO) by two years until 30 June 2019 and 29 February 2020 respectively. “In this important phase involving the upcoming closing and subsequent integration of UASC, we are counting on continuity in the executive management. I am therefore delighted that the existing Executive Board team will continue its successful work”, said Michael Behrendt, Supervisory Board Chairman of Hapag-Lloyd AG. Alongside Anthony Firmin and Nicolás Burr, the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG includes Rolf Habben Jansen (CEO) and Thorsten Haeser (CCO).

Hapag-Lloyd is Restructuring Service

Starting end of April, Hapag-Lloyd will operate their own independent service from Northern Europe via Suez direct to Australia/New Zealand that it used to provide with a partner. “We will be introducing two additional units and continuing to operate the service with twelve ships. With this direct service, we offer the best transit times on this route,” states Anthony Firmin, Managing Director Ship and Container Management of Hapag-Lloyd AG.
