Yang Ming Announces New Intra-Asia Service

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation announced a new Intra-Asia service KVM(Korea–Vietnam–Malaysia Service) jointly operated by YM and APL Co. Pte Ltd through its CNC brand with effect on February 21st, 2019.The service will be operated with three 1,800-TEU container vessels, one by YM and two by APL Co. Ptd Ltd via its CNC brand.The full port rotation will be Kwangyang, Pusan, Kaohsiung, Ho Chi Minh, Port Kelang, Singapore, Haiphong, Kaohsiung, Kwangyang. A round trip will take 21 days.The new service is expected to connect Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia more efficiently and provide customers with more convenient and excellent delivery service.

Yang Ming Launches New China-Malaysia Direct Service

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (YM) has announced the launch of CMS service (China-Malaysia service) with effect on February 23rd, 2019 (estimated time of berth from Qingdao).The service is jointly operated by Yang Ming, Gold Star Line Ltd.(GSL), T.S. Lines Co., Ltd (TSL) and CNC, a brand of APL Co. Pte Ltd. Each carrier will deploy a container vessel of nominal 4,250 TEU capacity, said a statement from the marine transportation company.The ports of call are Qingdao, Shanghai, Xiamen, Nansha, Port Kelang, Penang, Port Kelang, Pasir Gudang, Shekou, Hong Kong, Qingdao. A round trip will take 28 days.In addition to the Intra-Asia deployment of more than 35 services, YM continues to strengthen its service network.

WFW advises CMB Financial Leasing on Sale, Leaseback of Eight Vessels

International law firm, Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”), advised CMB Financial Leasing Co. Ltd (“CMB”) in respect of: (i) the sale of eight container vessels by NOL Liner (Pte.) Ltd to certain Singapore incorporated SPVs wholly owned by CMB International Leasing Management Ltd; and (ii) the bareboat charter of each vessel by the relevant buyer to APL Co. Pte. Ltd. The transaction was backed by French incorporated CMA CGM, of which both NOL Liner Pte Ltd and APL Co Pte Ltd are indirect subsidiaries. The WFW maritime team was led by Hong Kong Partner Christoforos Bisbikos, supported by Associates Andrew Chou and Ryan Tan and Legal Assistant Dongchen Shi. Hoff and Juliette Vroom. market is depressed, leasing remains one of the strongest sources of equity in the sector”.

RFAI Key to Monitoring West Coast Agreement - FMC

Following is the statement of FMC Commissioner William P. We do not take our hands off the wheel just because an agreement is allowed to go into effect without the Commission taking any further action to delay the implementation of the agreement. FMC staff has requested certain information from the parties to the Pacific Ports Operational Improvements Agreement (PPOIA). To date, the response by the PPOIA parties has been incomplete. As a Commissioner I am interested in information including but not limited to service agreements between the vessel operating common carriers and the marine terminal operators, as well as information related to chassis operations.

51 Awarded Scholarships by Singapore Maritime Industry

A total of 51 scholarships worth more than S$1.4 million were awarded this year, as part of continuous outreach and talent development efforts to meet the manpower needs of the growing Singapore maritime industry - an area which contributes to some 7 per cent of the nation's economy. Sponsored by maritime companies and organisations, the MaritimeONE (Maritime Outreach NEtwork) scholarships and Tripartite Maritime Scholarship Scheme (TMSS) support various local and overseas diploma and degree programmes. In all, 40 MaritimeONE and 11 TMSS scholarships were presented at the MaritimeONE Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the M Hotel Singapore this evening.

MRM Facilitator Training Concludes in Manila

A successful Maritime Resource Management (MRM) Facilitator training event concluded today in Makati City, Manila, Philippines as 22 participants from China, Germany, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore had gathered for the two-day event held at the European Training & Competence Center (ETCC) Inc. to be trained and certified as MRM Facilitators. Martin Hernqvist of ALL Academy, trainer at the event, said the event was a success thanks to the active participation from the attendees.

BWTS Test Organizations Launch GloBal TestNet Group

A new formal group of organizations involved in testing for the certification of ballast water treatment systems has been set up, known as the “GloBal TestNet,” to facilitate increased standardization and harmonization of test procedures and information exchange. The move is expected to benefit test facility clients as well as the end-users of ballast water treatment technologies: the ship owners who need cost-effective and environmentally-friendly systems to meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention), 2004. Kalmar's Proposal Received a Commendation Award

Kalmar's proposal for the Next Generation Container Port Challenge was prepared in close cooperation with Singapore Nanyang Technological University, APL Co Ltd, Fraunhofer IDM@NTU and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

Cargotec's Kalmar,  as part of a consortium, received a commendation award of $100,000 (USD)  in the Next Generation Container Port (NGCP) Challenge at the Singapore International Maritime Awards on April 11. The NGCP Challenge sought to identify innovative ideas on how to plan, design and operate the next generation of container ports that exemplify performance, productivity and sustainability. Kalmar's proposal was prepared in close cooperation with Singapore Nanyang Technological University, APL Co Ltd, Fraunhofer IDM@NTU and VTT Technical Research Center of Finland.

Coast Guard Recognizes Industry's Environmental Excellence

The U.S. Coast Guard announced the award recipients for the 2012 Biennial Rear Admiral William M. Benkert, Marine Environmental Protection Award for Excellence at the American Petroleum Institute Tanker Conference in Orlando, Fla. The winner of the Osprey award went to APL Co. Pte. Ltd. based out of Singapore in the large vessel category. The winners for the Gold award went to AEP River Operations based out of St. Louis and Holland America based out of Seattle in the foreign vessel category. Ingram Marine Group based out of Nashville, Tenn., Matson Navigation based out of Oakland, Calif., and Marathon Petroleum Co. based out of Tampa, Fla., were winners in the large vessel category. Winners for the Silver award in the large vessel category went to Maersk Line Ltd. based out of Baltimore.

TNWA Group Launches Trans-Atlantic Service

The New World Alliance (TNWA) – APL Co. Pte Ltd (APL), Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) - today announced the launch of a new Trans-Atlantic service connecting Europe and the UK with the US East Coast and Panama. The Americas Europe Express (AEE) service is TNWA's third dedicated Trans-Atlantic service. It offers multiple weekly sailings from major US and European ports, as well as competitive transit times from Latin America to North Europe via the trans-shipment hub in Panama. The Alliance will deploy high reefer capacity ships with an average effective capacity of 3,200 TEU. APL will operate three vessels, and HMM and MOL will operate one vessel each.

APL, Direct Vietnam to North America Service

Global shipping leader APL announced the launch of a new weekly direct container shipping service linking Vietnam and the West Coast of North America. Previously, Vietnam’s exporters have had to rely on small feeder vessels to connect with larger ships to gain access to the world’s major consuming markets. The first departure of the APL-operated service on 4 June will directly link Vietnam’s exporters to the Transpacific routes, which are among the world’s largest and most dynamic trade lanes. “This is the beginning of a new era for trade with Vietnam and marks its increased importance as a manufacturing and export centre,” said Eng Aik Meng, President of APL. In early 2007, APL co-authored research examining Vietnam’s transportation and logistics environment.
