ABB Names Jouret Chief Digital Officer

ABB has appointed Guido Jouret as Chief Digital Officer, reporting to ABB’s CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer, effective October 1, 2016. Jouret, a pioneer of the Internet of Things, will lead the next level of development and deployment of ABB’s digital solutions for customers globally and across all businesses. Jouret is a citizen of both the United States and Belgium, with long experience in Silicon Valley. He served for 20 years at Cisco after obtaining a PhD in Computer Science. His most recent role at Cisco was as General Manager of the Internet of Things division, which aims to connect billions of devices to the internet across a wide range of industries.

Vistronix Acquires Agency Consulting Group

Vistronix has acquired the Agency Consulting Group (ACG). The McLean Group's Aerospace, Defense & Government Services (ADG) practice served as the exclusive mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisor to ACG. Founded in 2004 and based in Columbia, MD, ACG provides technical solutions in the areas of cloud computing analytics, critical systems infrastructure and specialized mission solutions. ACG is a primary architect of the intelligence community’s migration of applications, software and infrastructure to cloud-based, virtual environments. ACG maintains one of the largest contingents of Citrix, VMWare, Linux and Solaris certified engineers within the intelligence community.

ABB to Supply for New Viking Line Ferry

ABB won an order to provide an energy management system for one a new Viking Line cruise ferry, being built at STX Turku in Finland and due for delivery in 2013. The new ship measures 214m long and has a top speed of 22 knots, able to carry 2,800 passengers o the route connecting Turku, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. The ship will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its fuel, which will be a first for a passenger vessel of this size. Through efficient use of this fuel, the ship will have extremely low emissions and virtually zero marine emissions. Viking Ferry Orders ABB Energy System

ABB to provide energy management system for new Viking Line ferry. Smart energy tool to provide substantial fuel savings for environmentally friendly cruise ferry, helping it reach a target of zero marine emissions. ABB, a power and automation technology group, has won an order to provide an energy management system for one of the world’s most environmentallyfriendly cruise ferries, which is due to be delivered to Viking Line in 2013. The ship is being built in Finland at the STX Yard in Turku.

OOPS and Ulysses Systems Sign Joint Agreement

O'Brien Oil Pollution Service, Inc. (OOPS) and Ulysses Systems, Inc. have signed an agreement to jointly market their maritime consulting services and Ulysses' Task Assistant(TM) applications software for the marine industry. OOPS will continue to provide clients with vessel management plans, procedures and best practices that enhance the quality, environmental and safety operations on-board. Revamped Software Systems Results in Substantial Savings

In a rapidly changing, increasingly technological world, companies are finding it more important to change the way they invest their man-hours and expand their facilities. Bollinger Shipyards has aggressively expanded its physical facilities over the past few years, but realized expansion of the facilities without a thorough revamp of its internal communications systems would be foolish and costly, in the long run. The company employs 1,800 and is comprised of eight shipyards in Southern Louisiana. The most distant offices are still within 120 miles of each other. Until recently, the shipyards were using several different software systems to produce financial and operational information.

Bollinger opts for Oracle

In tying its eight diverse facilities together with a state-of-the-art information system, Bollinger Shipyards plans to recoup monetary and efficiency rewards far exceeding the $2.5 million investment. Bollinger Shipyards has aggressively pursued a course of expansion of physical facilities over the past few years, though not to the point of over-extension whereby down markets would cause a serious financial crisis. But while the shipyard has steadily added to its capabilities, it realized that expansion of facilities without a thorough revamp of its own internal communications and processes would be foolhardy, as well as very costly.
