Port Co-operation, Maritime Security Meet of Argentina

A regional workshop focusing on this year’s World Maritime Day theme - Connecting Ships, Ports and People – has been held in Buenos Aires, Argentina (26-29 June). The event, organized by International Maritime Organization (IMO) in collaboration with the Argentine Maritime Authority (Prefectura Naval Argentina), aimed to promote cooperation between ports and designated authorities of participating countries through an open discussion and by sharing experiences and best practices related to maritime security. The workshop also reviewed the implementation of maritime security in the region and evaluating new or evolving threats. Argentinian Center Installs Engine Room Simulator

Buenos Aires, Argentina. Transas Marine has delivered its leading Engine Room Simulator ERS 5000 TechSim to the Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers is the corporate and trade association that brings together Merchant Navy Officers specialising in machinery. These professionals are responsible for the operation, maintenance, management and troubleshooting of all technical elements on merchant ships. The simulator complex consists of a classroom for training in diesel propulsion, steam and ASD tug plants with eight workstations, a classroom for training in refrigerating plants operation with four trainee workstations.

More Cummins Engines for Argentina

On May 31 this year, the shipyard Astillero Naval Federico Contessi y Cia. christened and launched a new coastal fishing vessel. The BP Porto Belo I is a design owned by the shipyard and was built for the owners, Marma MDQ S.A.. The new trawler is 24,07 x 6,7 meters with a depth of 3,10 meters and has a draft of 2,72 meters. The main engine is a Cummins KTA19M3 delivering 600 hp at 1800 rpm to a Twin Disc MG 5222 DC marine gear with 6,1:1 reduction and turning a four-blade KA-470 propeller. The Cummins KTA19M3 is provided with the Centry controller.

ABS Granted Statutory Authority By Argentina

ABS has signed a memorandum of Agreement with the Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA – the Argentine Coast Guard) by which the classification society is now authorized to issue statutory certificates on behalf of the PNA for Argentine flag vessels in the nation’s cabotage trades. ABS is one of only two international class societies to receive this authorization. ABS is currently authorized by the PNA to issue statutory certificates for internationally trading Argentine flag vessels. The extended authorization expands that authorization to include domestically operating vessels such as workboats, fishing vessels and barges. “This agreement has particular significance since a recent change in Argentine law requires all cabotage vessels to operate under the national flag by 2006…
