Evergreen’s New Line from Taiwan to China

Evergreen Line's 1140-TEU Uni-Adroit set sail across the 100-mile-wide Taiwan Straits for China's northern Xingang port on December 15, 2009 opening a new era of direct ocean shipping following a ceremony at Kaohsiung harbor overseen by Taiwan's President Ma Yin-Jiu. The direct link ends a nearly 60-year suspension of such services between Taiwan and the China mainland. The new direct service was accelerated with the election and inauguration of President Ma earlier this year. The two nations signed an agreement in November to ensure the opening of trade as beneficial to both economies.

Wang: Container Market Strength to Continue

Arnold Wang, Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corporation, addressed delegates at the World Shipping Summit (China) 2007 on "Growing Demand as Indicated by the Shipbuilding Orderbook. Speaking at the World Shipping Summit (China) 2007 on November 2 in Tianjin, Arnold Wang, Chairman of Evergreen Marine Corporation, addressed the audience on the subject “Growing Demand as Indicated by the Shipbuilding Orderbook”. “In 2006, container throughput in all Chinese ports reached 80 million TEU, or around one-fifth of the global volume. For cargoes from Asia to Europe and North America, China’s exports have accounted for more than half of market volumes. In 2006 China gained a market share of 65% in the Trans-Pacific eastbound trade, 71% with the inclusion of Hong Kong.

Evergreen Launches Another Asia/US Service

Following congestion on the US West Coast towards the end of 2004, the pressure has been on carriers to launch additional services via the Panama Canal. The Evergreen Group has responded to this challenge by introducing new services of its own and complementing these with slot charter arrangements with other carriers. Together with Cosco Container Lines (Coscon), Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) is launching a new service linking China with the southern states of the US. Designated the CUE service, it will link the ports of Shanghai, Yantian and Hong Kong with Evergreen’s Panamanian hub terminal, Colon Container Terminal (CCT), Savannah and Miami.

DNV Recognizes Evergreen's Quality Management System

Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) was yesterday awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate by certification company Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in a ceremony held at the Evergreen building in Taipei. The award, presented by Ole-Andreas Hafnor, senior vice president of DNV, was accepted by Evergreen's president Arnold Wang. Evergreen Marine Corporation's quality policy was put in place with four key drivers in mind, namely: To provide consistently high service quality; to focus on customer requirements; to ensure the highest levels of safety; and to continuously improve and innovate.
