GTT Develops Balast Water-Free LNG Feeder & Bunker Vessel Concept

French firm GTT has developed a versatile LNG feeder & bunker vessel concept for worldwide operation without the use of ballast water.Every day, many ships carry on board a considerable quantity of seawater as ballast over the oceans. Technically, this is needed in empty or partially loaded conditions, in order to maintain seaworthiness, reach sufficient draft for propeller immersion, and avoid excessive bow slamming.Such ballasting requires investment for the onboard systems and leads to substantial operating costs.

Petrobras Buys Its First Guyanese Crude Cargo

Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras has bought its first cargo of Guyanese crude for refining domestically, the company told Reuters, as South America's newest producer expands its market reach.With the start of a second floating production facility in February, Guyana now sells two light and sweet oil grades with plans to pump up to 360,000 barrels per day (bpd) this year. The sales are helping the tiny nation rapidly boost its revenue."Petrobras constantly monitors the international oil market looking for different suppliers and new production worldwide," a company spokesperson said in a statement.The 1-million-barrel cargo of crude loaded last week from the Liza Destiny and departed on Monday onboard the Bahamas-flagged tanker Cascade Spirit.

Port Milwaukee Seeks Proposals for South Shore Cruise Dock

Port Milwaukee said it is seeking proposals from prospective tenants for development at its South Shore Cruise Dock.This waterfront five-acre site, located immediately east of the Lake Express High Speed Ferry terminal, is available for development of recreational, entertainment, tourism, cultural, passenger vessel and public access uses. Yantian Express: The Fire Primarily Contained

The fire has been primarily contained. Three salvage tugs are currently providing assistance to Yantian Express, which suffered a cargo fire on 3 January in the Atlantic.Another ocean-going tug is also on its way to further assist the operations, said a press release from Ocean Network Express (ONE). The Hapag-Lloyd containership is alliance partner of ONE."Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you the possible port of refuge and estimated time of arrival at this moment. Details will be advised once the information has been determined," an advisory to customers said."At this time, it is not possible to make a precise estimate of any damage to Yantian Express or its cargo.

AIDAprima Makes Maiden Call at Southampton

AIDA Cruises’ new flagship AIDAprima docked in Britain’s Southampton port for the first time on the morning of April 27, 2016, as part of a four-day short cruise. AIDAprima will become the first cruise ship to depart from a German port all year round, from May 3 onwards visiting Southampton on Mondays as part of seven-day cruises to Western European cities from Hamburg. From April 30, 2016 Hamburg will be the departure and arrival port for seven-day round trips to cities such as London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam.

MGI is Newest IPCSA Member

MGI (Marseille Gyptis International) becomes IPCSA's 28th member and the association's second member based in France. “Nearly 30 ports in France and overseas have implemented the Cargo Community System AP+, MGI‟s and SOGET‟s flagship product since 2005 – including Mauritius, Benin, Togo and New Caledonia. Coinciding with its 30th anniversary in December 2015, MGI launched Ci5 (Cargo intelligence 5), its new flagship software solution designed to succeed and build on AP+.

New Roles for Satcoms in Autonomous Shipping

Examining some questions regarding commercial autonomous and drone ships, as well as why VSAT currently presents the best solution for the communications and control of such vessels. The topic of autonomous shipping has been much in the news recently. We have seen, for example, the announcement in September 2015 that Inmarsat has begun participating in the Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications Initiative (AAWA) recently launched by Rolls Royce. This initiative is designed to move autonomous shipping from the drawing board to a commercial reality.

MOL Containership to Transport Aid Supplies from Overseas

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) is determined to provide containerships to transport aid supplies from overseas. As the damages of the earthquake set in, MOL has received many calls from voices desired to transport aid supplies to Japan from overseas. “We express our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones in the earthquake,” MOL President Koichi Muto said. Items covered: Grant aid supplies from public institutions such as governmental institutions and municipalities, or government-approved aid organizations to be shipped to disaster areas by the Tohoku district - off the Pacific Ocean earthquake. However, some of the items such as dangerous articles, animals, and other regulated items may not be accepted.

Seaway Pre-Entry Notification Required

On March 4, the Great Lakes / St. Lawrence Seaway System issued a notice stating that all foreign flagged vessels intending to transit the Seaway must submit a complete Notice of Arrival (NOA) 96 hours prior to entering the Seaway at Call In Point 2 (CIP 2). The NOA must be provided electronically following the USCG National Vessel Movement Center’s (NVMC) procedures and using either a website (http://www.nvmc.uscg.gov), eXtensible Markup Language format (XML schema), or InfoPath application. To complete the NOA correctly for the Seaway, CIP2 shall be selected as the Arrival Port, Foreign to Saint Lawrence Seaway shall be selected as the Voyage Type, and Saint Lawrence Seaway – Transit shall be selected as the Arrival State, City and Receiving Facility.
