Wärtsilä, Qtagg Launch Retrofit Solution for Marine Engine Governor System

Finland-based marine technology firm Wärtsila said Wednesday it had launched an innovative retrofit solution for its marine engine governor system in collaboration with Swedish marine green tech company Qtagg. The solution is designed to extend the lifespan of a ship’s propulsion control system, while simultaneously enhancing the vessel’s overall efficiency.Wartsila's Wärtsilä Automation, Navigation and Control Systems (ANCS) business is collaborating with Qtagg in this project."ANCS’s marine governor systems help regulate and control engine speed.

Bay Shipbuilding to Build LNG Bunker Barge for Crowley

Eneti Orders $330M Wind Turbine Installation Vessel. Eyes U.S. Offshore Wind Market, Too

Offshore wind installation company Eneti Inc, until recently known as Scorpio Bulkers, has entered into a binding agreement for the construction of one Wind Turbine Installation Vessel. The vessel will be built by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.The company also said it was in talks to build another offshore wind installation vessel for the U.S. offshore wind market.As for the first vessel, ordered from DSME, it will cost $330 million and the vessel will be delivered in early Q3,  2024.

Wartsila Wins US LNG Bunker Vessel Deal

The Finnish technology major Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply its LNG cargo handling system for a new 5400-cbm LNG bunker barge being built in the USA.The barge is being built at the Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding yard in Wisconsin on behalf of NorthStar Midstream. Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) has selected Taylor Bros of Tasmania to supply two high powered Antarctic landing barges for Australia’s new icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina. Damen is building the vessel at its yard, Damen Shipyards Galati, in Romania for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). The vessel will be operated by DMS Maritime, a wholly owned subsidiary of Serco, and is an integral part of the AAD’s research program in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Wärtsilä Environmental Efficiency for Hybrid UK Ferry

A new ferry being built at the Cemre shipyard in Turkey for UK operator Wightlink will feature a comprehensive range of modern Wärtsilä equipment and systems to ensure a high level of environmental efficiency. In addition to conventional fuel, the new vessel will be the first ferry to utilzse Wärtsilä hybrid battery technology to improve efficiency, reduce the exhaust emissions and lower the noise level. The scope includes four 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 generating sets, electrical and automation (E&A) systems, and a sanitary discharge system.

Australia Orders Antarctic Supply Research Vessel

The Australian Government has signed a deal with DMS Maritime, a wholly owned subsidiary of Serco, for the delivery, operation and maintenance of an Antarctic Supply Research Vessel (ASRV) with icebreaking capabilities. The vessel, to be built by the Damen Shipyards Group, will form an integral part of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) program in the coming years. The April 28 signing ceremony in Hobart Tasmania was attended by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julia Bishop and Minister for the Environment, Greg Hunt.

Terex Port Solutions for Argentinian Power Plant

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) achieves another success in South America. The Argentinian power plant operator AES Argentina Generacion S.A. (AES) has ordered a Terex Gottwald Model 2 portal harbour crane in the G HSK 2224 variant from TPS. From the end of 2016, AES will use the cargo handling machine in its 1,540 MW power plant in San Nicolás de los Arroyos to unload coal imported from Colombia and South Africa. The G HSK 2224 crane will be the first Model 2 in the world designed as a portal harbour crane. the north west of the Atlantic estuary of the Rio Paraná.
