Maju 510 Tug: Singapore's First Autonomous Vessel Project Complete
Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine said Thursday it had completed work on the Maju 510 tug, its first autonomous vessel project."Capable of autonomous vessel navigation as well as collision detection and avoidance (CDCA), the Maju 510 tug, owned and operated by Keppel Smit Towage, is the first vessel in the world to receive the Autonomous Notation from ABS classification society," Keppel O&M said.According to Keppel O&M, the tug is the first in South Asia that can be remotely operated by joystick control.

This forward-facing document should be read by everyone in the Coast Guard and by those associated with the US maritime sector. Upgrades Complete for Anzac Class
The Australian Navy's eight Anzac class frigates are now all back in the water post anti-ship missile defence upgrades, with HMAS Stuart undocking at the Henderson shipyard in Western Australia. She will now commence trials of her state-of-the-art systems and modifications. Commander Surface Forces Commodore Christopher Smith said the overhaul had enabled the helicopter frigates to continue to protect Australia and its interests. “The entire Anzac class is now one of the most capable frigate forces in the world and is tangible evidence of Navy’s progress towards deploying highly capable task groups,” Commodore Smith. The upgrade includes the installation of an improved combat system and the Australian designed CEAFAR Active Phased Array Radar suite.

Wärtsilä Propulsion for Seabourn Cruise Vessels
Two new cruise vessels being built for USA based Seabourn Cruise Line will feature a broad assortment of Wärtsilä propulsion, electrical and automation solutions. The ships are to be built at the Fincantieri yard in Italy. The 'Seabourn Encore' is already under construction and the 'Seabourn Ovation' is scheduled to join the Seabourn fleet in 2018. The contracts with Wärtsilä for the vessels' navigation and automation systems were signed in December 2015. The engine orders were signed in late 2014 and in the third quarter of 2015. The comprehensive range of Wärtsilä navigation, automation and sensor systems to be installed on these vessels includes the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum and Wärtsilä Valmatic Platinum systems.

New Louisiana Facility Offers EDCIS, DP Training
The Marine Training Institute advises that classes are filling up quickly for ECDIS & DP training at its new technologically advanced facility situated on the central Gulf Coast near Houma, Louisiana. Beier Radio explain that it opened The Marine Training Institute in January 2014, specializing in USCG approved ECDIS certification courses and type-specific ECDIS training, as well as basic and advanced DP Operator training. Students can master there the operations of vessel technology using simulators that apply real-world skills to the real-world challenges of the marine environment during four and five day sessions. The Marine Training Institute is the only full time ECDIS training facility along the Gulf of Mexico, say Beier.
Alewijnse Project Wins KNVTS Ship of the Year Award 2013
Alewijnse Marine Systems celebrated their involvement in the success of the award-winning 'LNG Greenstream' waterway tankship at the recent 16th KNVTS Maritime Awards Gala held in The Netherlands. Alewijnse say that the 110m 'Greenstream' is the first commercial inland vessel to use LNG‐electric propulsion. The vessel was built by Peters Shipyards, Kampen, and Alewijnse was responsible for the entire electrical installation on board, including the systems that control and regulate the LNG‐fuelled generators.
Eastern Shipbuilding to Build Large Fishing Trawler
Eastern Shipbuilding Group contracted by O’Hara Corporation to construct a 194-ft freezer stern-trawler. The new vessel is a ST-115 design by Skipsteknisk, AS of Aalesund, Norway, and will be built to DNV classification rules: +1A1, Stern Trawler, E0 Notation for hull, and DNV ICE 1B designed, outfitted and inspected for harsh cold environments. The Coast Guard placed the country’s newest National Security Cutter, the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, into service during a formal ceremony on Coast Guard Island, in Alameda, Saturday. First Lady Michelle Obama joined in the ceremony as the Stratton’s official sponsor, alongside Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert J. Papp and the Stratton’s commanding officer, Captain Charles L.
