Manor Marine Delivers Cargo-carrying Pontoon
U.K. shipbuilder Manor Marine, an OEG group company, announced it has built a new cargo-carrying pontoon for the Ascension Island Government.Construction commenced in February 2023, and the pontoon has been delivered on schedule.The 17-meter self-propelled barge is commissioned for shipping to and use in the Ascension Island waters.Previous pontoons fabricated for the Ascension Island Government at the Manor Marine shipyard were also commissioned for the same purpose, the builder said.
Ocean Infinity’s Hunt for the Submarine San Juan
The search for the Argentinian submarine was like hunting for the proverbial needle in a hay stack, except that it was a piece of straw. Elaine Maslin reports. At 7.19am, local time, on November 15, 2017, the last message was received from the San Juan submarine. She belonged to the Argentinian navy and was on a routine mission from Ushuaia in the Patagonia region to Mar del Plata in Buenos Aires province when she lost contact with the military. Fifteen days later, neither the submarine nor any debris had been found and the crew of 44 sailors were presumed dead.
St Helena Line Seeks Buyer for Vessel
St Helena Line has announced that it is to withdraw the Passenger Cargo Royal Mail Ship St Helena from service in February 2018 and has appointed London ship broker CW Kellock & Co Ltd to handle her sale. Operated by St Helena Line Ltd (SHL) on behalf of the St Helena Government (SHG), the RMS has been part of the Island’s history for over quarter of a century and provided the sole regular means of access to the Island, a remote UK Overseas Territory located 1200 miles off the West coast of Africa in the South Atlantic. She was built in the UK in 1990 specifically for the St Helena route. At 6,767 gross tonnes, she can accommodate 156 passengers in 56 cabins, together with a cargo capacity of 3750 cbm bale, and 92 teu (of which 17 reefer). She is staffed by 56 officers and crew.
Cruise Ship Disabled in Remote South Georgia
Trouble started 12 days into a 31-day journey from Ushuaia, Argentina, one of the southernmost cities in the world, to Ascension Island, an isolated volcanic island near the Equator. After returning from a small island, the ship suffered a complete power failure. Ship's engineers were able to fix the problem and course was set for Tristan de Cunha heading north in order to avoid a fierce storm system. En route, the ship suffered another engine failure. It was thought the ship could complete the cruise around the islands…
