Cruise Trade Association Goes Global

9 cruise industry associations to operate under a common organization with a unified structure to better serve the industry. The new association was created to provide increased benefits and a globally unified voice for cruise lines, travel agents and business partners – all of whom contribute to an industry that creates nearly $100 billion in economic impact and more than 753,000 jobs worldwide. For cruise lines, the new association offers a one-stop global resource on technical and regulatory issues and unified global communication and event coordination, all of which better leverage cruise lines’ investment in association membership. For travel agents, the new association offers more robust partnership programs and networking on a broader scale.

Cruise Conference Notes Asia Port Infrastructure Shortfall

Second annual Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific conference opens in Singapore with State of Asia Cruise Industry panel discussions. Gianni Onorato, president of Costa Crociere, noted that port infrastructure in Asia is still lacking, along with consumer education. "The major issue here is to explain what cruising is to the customers," said Onorato. "The second challenge is how to offer destinations and itineraries that can be reached in a competitive way cost-wise. We have a number of major homeports in the region, but they need other ports of call that are able to accommodate ships. Today, this is not the case and one of the major obstacles to growth. Onorato noted that since 2006, Costa has invested tens of millions of euros in China in distribution and advertising.

Cruise Travel Agent Training Offered at Conference

Upcoming Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific Conference organizers announce travel agent training program at Singapore conference. Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific – conference and trade show focusing on the emerging Asia–Pacific cruise industry —  announce details for its second edition of Travel Agent Training. Taking place during Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific, September 17-18, 2012 at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, the Travel Agent Training sessions are organized in partnership with the Asia Cruise Association. Cruise Shipping Asia Pacific Expo Gets ICCA Backing

The ICCA joins Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which has also pledged exclusive backing, and the Asia Cruise Association (ACA) and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) as supporters of Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific 2012, which will be held at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on September 17-18, 2012. ICCA General Manager Brett Jardine said the ICCA was pleased to be supporting UBM Live's Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific."Cruise Shipping Asia- Pacific, which is important to the industry because it allows cruise industry members from around the world to get together to discuss their needs and opportunities," Mr. Jardine said.
