Tandemloc Inc. continues its product expansion with the new and in stock product line, AR12 Series Diametral Tongs. Tandemloc’s off-the-shelf AR12 Diametral Tongs range in capacities up to 3,000 lbs. with a 14” maximum diameter. The Tong’s diameter can also be customized per the customer’s individual requirements. The Diametral Tongs are for handling cylindrical items, such as pipe, round bar and any other cylindrical item falling within the working load limit and diameter size that each tong is designed for. Harris Pye Announces New Scrubber Installations

The Harris Pye Engineering Group is currently engaged in turnkey scrubber installation packages for major cruise line companies. On August 3, 2016 Harris Pye completed the installation of an Advanced Emission Purification System, fully automated, which was duly DNV GL certified which met with MARPOL regulation 14 of Annex V1 for the control of emissions complying to regulations 14.1 or 14.4. The design package for open and closed loop systems was utilized to model and fabricate all piping systems, hardware integration, and major/minor steelworks. Along with new exhaust tail pipes, sea chests were installed with the vessel in service along with the associated overboard discharges.

Webb Institute has appointed Benjamin H. Scott as the Assistant Professor of Marine Engineering. Scott is a design engineer with over 30 years of experience in thermal and hydraulic analysis, heat exchanger design, thermal performance testing and fluid system design. Scott recently retired from Exelon Corporation as the senior manager of design engineering at their Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Md., where he oversaw a staff of 60 multidiscipline engineers responsible for all plant modifications and improvements…

Shipboard Waste Heat Recovery Technology

Calnetix Technologies, LLC has published a White Paper describing new processes for producing supplemental power for a ship’s electrical load. The White Paper, entitled New-Technology Shipboard System Converts Heat from Engine Jacket Water into Electrical Power, is available for free download. Calnetix, working in close cooperation with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery and Engine Company (MHI-MME), has developed a system called Hydrocurrent, which uses an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) heat transfer process and a patented turbo-generator power system to convert thermal energy from heat in the engine’s jacket water into mechanical power to generate electricity.

Drydocks World Secures New ISO Certificate

Drydocks World the international service providers to the shipping, offshore, oil, gas and energy sectors won the ISO 3834-2: 2005 certificate for quality requirements on fusion welding of metallic materials. This certificate validates Drydocks World’s capabilities in line with international welding standards and criteria, ensuring proper monitoring, documenting, testing and supervision of the welding process. The terms of service required in relation to welding have been met through compliance with rules, conditions and requirements. The ISO 3834-2: 2005pledges that the implementation of welding operations are being carried out correctly and accurately through the development of welding procedures.

SAACKE Water Boiler Ordered for FLNG

SAACKE Marine Systems received an initial order from Japan-based JGC Corporation in June 2014 to deliver a complete high temperature water boiler system – consisting of a fired hot water boiler with a dual fuel burner and two heat recovery units – for PETRONAS’ second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. "Japan is a key international shipbuilding market for SAACKE. That's why the order is a great success for our company, particularly in relation to the current market situation," said Peter Breidenich, Director Business Unit Marine Systems. Specifically, the SAACKE heat recovery units utilize the hot flue gas generated by gas turbines to produce hot water for the heating system.

SSI Releases ShipConstructor 2015

The release of ShipConstructor 2015 CAD/CAM software is a key part of SSI’s new plan to increase flexibility, security, convenience and simplicity for its clients in the shipbuilding and offshore markets, the company said. According to SSI, ShipConstructor 2015 contains several new catalogs, an augmentation SSI claims is of immediate benefit, as they will help users quickly and accurately model components to correct specifications. These catalog additions and changes include the following XML standard templates: PipeCatalog-ASME-CarbonSteel.XML, ImperialWeldStandards.XML and MetricWeldStandards.XML. According to SSI, of particular note are the details related to the addition of the catalog for ASME Carbon Steel Pipe.

HydraWrap: Not Just a Temporary Repair Anymore

Many vessel operators that experience leaks to piping, pipe fittings, and bulkheads have, in recent years, turned to the HydraWrap system. Bureau Veritas Offshore Rolling Research Rewarded

A team in the R&D department of  international classification society Bureau Veritas, working with Brazil’s Petrobras, has been awarded the prestigious OMAE 2013 Best Paper of Offshore Technology Symposium for its paper detailing ground breaking research into second-order rolling of FLNGs. The basic research in the paper has led to a Joint Industry Project involving nineteen companies including most of the energy majors and managed by Bureau Veritas which is developing harmonized guidelines for the estimation of roll motions of FPSOs.

ASRY Repair Updates

ASRY issued a statement detailing the yard's recent operational and business developments. After appointing Resolute Maritime Services as the agents in Greece an increased activity from Greek market can be observed at ASRY including one of the leading owners from Greece, Maran Tankers Management, sending their VLCC for docking in ASRY. Apart from routine drydocking jobs and hull treatment the main job was the installation of owner-supplied Becker Mewis Duct. This is the 12th duct ASRY has installed, and second on a VLCC, which only required a record 10 days for complete installation, proving their proficiency in that field. ABS to Class First Self-elevating Unit Built in Qatar

ABS, a provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, was selected by Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) to class its LB310S liftboat, the first ever self-elevating unit built by the shipyard and the first built in Qatar. The project also will be the first offshore newbuild project undertaken by the ASME and API accredited shipyard. Customized for the Middle East and North Africa region, the LB310S will be a four-legged liftboat capable of field transit and elevated operations in water depths to 65 meters. The liftboat will be built to comply with ABS classification requirements for self-elevating units, including the DPS-0 notation.

Drydocks World Inks Agreement with DNV GL
