V.Group Names Traaholt CFO

Ship management and marine services company V.Group announced it has appointed Petter Traaholt as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the V.Group Board.Traaholt joined V.Group from Eltel Group where he was Group CFO, based in Stockholm. Prior to joining Eltel in 2017, he held a number of senior operations and finance roles in Wilhelmsen Holding ASA; initially combining roles as CFO and Deputy CEO of Wilhelmsen Maritime Service, then in 2010 becoming President of Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions.

Maersk Poaches New CFO from Assa Abloy

Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk has chosen Carolina Dybeck Happe as its new Chief Finance Officer, it said on Wednesday.Happe will take the position at a time where Maersk is undergoing a strategic transformation from a broader conglomerate including an oil business to a more focused shipping company.The 45-year Swede, who comes from a CFO position at the world's biggest lock group Assa Abloy, will start on Jan. 1 2019 at the latest, Maersk said in a statement.The move comes after…

ASSA Roundtable Navy Meeting Attended by 100+ Suppliers

The American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA) recently held discussions at the United States Navy Memorial & Naval Heritage Center, Washington DC,  between member companies and ADM Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations; Ms. Allison Stiller, DASN Ships; and Mr. John Thackrah, Military Sealift Command, Executive Director. The theme of this meeting, attended by over 100 defense and shipbuilding supplier industry decision makers, was “Federal Budget Impact to American Shipbuilding Suppliers”.

ASSA to Host Roundtable with RADM Berkey

On June 26, 2013, the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA) will host a roundtable discussion between member companies and Rear Admiral Richard D. Berkey, Deputy Chief of Staff, Fleet Maintenance, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. ASSA will discuss major issues affecting the entire shipbuilding supplier industry with RADM Berkey. This member’s only meeting is collocated (but unaffiliated) with the American Society of Naval Engineers Mega Rust 2013: Naval Corrosion Conference at the Newport News Marriott at City Center in Newport News, Virginia.

On April 10, 2013 the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA) is hosting a roundtable discussion between member companies and the Honorable Sean Stackley, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Research, Development & Acquisition (ASN RD&A). ASSA will discuss major issues affecting the entire shipbuilding supplier industry with Secretary Stackley. This members only meeting is collocated (but unaffiliated) with the United States Navy League Sea Air Space Expo 2013 at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland.

Hepburn Appointed to Lead ASSA

On November 15, 2012 the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association Board of Directors appointed Rick Hepburn, PE, CAPT, USN (Ret) as the second President of ASSA. Rick will work to achieve the ASSA vision to strengthen the capability within the United States for domestically producing the critical parts and equipment necessary for shipbuilding. Under Rick’s leadership, ASSA will continue to work closely with the US Congress, Navy, Coast Guard, Shipyards and other important maritime stakeholders. Rick will continue as President of Hepburn and Sons LLC, an engineering consulting firm offering support to Government and DoD Contractors in the fields of naval engineering, technology transition, system engineering, quality assessment, and ship design support.

Wärtsilä NSD Is Back On Track, Engine Orders Up 41%

Metra's - parent company of Wärtsilä NSD - reported that its 2Q net sales were $663.6 million, comparable growth 19%. comparable growth was $19.5 million. A driving force has been Wärtsilä NSD, which boasts an orderbook up 41%, and intake of new orders up 79% on same period last year. Wärtsilä NSD posted an operating profit of $18.6 million, which is 3.6% of net sales. Wärtsilä NSD became a wholly owned subsidiary of Metra on February 29, 2000 when Metra acquired the 15.4% minority holding owned by Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani for nearly $100 million. The split-up of the Cummins Wärtsilä joint venture took place during February as well.

DCT Gdansk celebrates Phase 1 completion

The completion of the first phase of development of Poland’s new deepwater container terminal, DCT Gdansk, was celebrated yesterday with a reception onboard the cruise vessel Lady Assa. DCT Gdansk management and directors were joined by public, city and port officials, representatives from the international shipping community, and civil engineers involved in the construction process as the vessel sailed from her berth at Motlawa in Gdansk’s ‘old town’ to DCT Gdansk’s 650m of completed quay. With Phase One of the terminal development up and running, DCT Gdansk recently announced weekly calls by leading global container line CMA CGM and feeder specialist Team Lines, while Lithuania-based feeder operator ISN has also initiated a weekly call between DCT Gdansk and Kaliningrad.
