DNV GL Approves IBM’s Maximo Software for Maritime and Offshore Sectors

Quality assurance and certification firm DNV GL granted type approval for IBM’s Maximo Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software, a tool that helps ship owners maintain their vessels in accordance with international regulations.The certification process for Maximo version 7.x was overseen by Manchester-based maritime and offshore specialist IT firm SRO Solutions, part of the Cohesive Companies."Shipowners are legally required to implement a Planned Maintenance System (PMS) to ensure their vessels are operated and maintained in accordance with class and manufacturer requirements.

Aerial Drones Perform Tanker Survey

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) survey and inspection firm Cyberhawk has completed the first full ABS Intermediate Hull Survey 4 on an oil tanker using UAVs.Cyberhawk performed full class inspection across 19 tanks on board an oil tanker while at a shipyard in Singapore. This included 12 Cargo Oil Tanks (COT), two slop tanks and five ballast tanks. Attending was the American Bureau for Shipping (ABS) to ensure the quality of the inspection complied with the specific ABS rules (ESP) set for tankers.

Cyberhawk Lands in Portuguese Market

Cyberhawk Innovations continues to bolster its international credentials through a new partnership with Portugal’s leading engineering service provider and contractor Construção e Manutenção Electromecânica (CME). Cyberhawk Sinks Claws into US O&G Market

Cyberhawk Innovations, the world leader in aerial inspection and survey using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), is set to boost its international credentials with the launch of a Houston office in the USA. The new office comes as a result of increasing demand from existing oil and gas customers who recognise the significant cost and time savings on offer from UAV inspection and want to utilise Cyberhawk’s expertise for their USA operations. Cyberhawk has already undertaken oil and gas inspection work in North America, for operators in Canada, and has a number of projects lined up with oil and gas supermajors in the US over the coming months.

Cyberhawk Attracts £2m investment

Cyberhawk, the world leader in Remotely Operated Aerial Vehicle (ROAV) inspection and survey, and a pioneer in the conversion of drone-captured data into powerful asset information, is targeting expansion following agreement on a new £2 million funding package from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks’ Growth Finance team. New services are enabled, bottlenecks eliminated, more joined up operations enabled. The underlying platform remains the same but, over time, its capabilities evolve and stretch to meet changing expectations. But then, every so often, something far more dramatic comes along. We are experiencing one of these more dramatic periods at the moment.

Oceaneering Acquires Port Vision Parent, AIRSIS

Oceaneering International, Inc. says it has acquired AIRSIS Inc., a provider of remote asset management software services. AIRSIS’ signature service, PortVision®, provides web-based location reporting on commercial vessels. AIRSIS’ revenue for 2013 was approximately $7 million, and its future financial results will be included in Oceaneering’s Subsea Projects segment. Oceaneering explains that this acquisition is expected to enhance its current asset tracking service offered on offshore drilling rigs and vessels engaged in subsea activities. Asset tracking information is utilized by customers to establish a common operating picture, which improves operational efficiency and enables incident and emergency response collaboration and reporting.

Software Solutions Debuts & Upgrades

ABS Nautical Systems will release in 2013 a new mobility platform for its NS5 Enterprise.

ABS Nautical Systems continually enhances its NS5 Enterprise software suite of products to meet ever-changing industry demands. Currently in development for release in 2013 are a mobility platform, a new warehouse and inventory management module, as well as a new Hull Inspection 3D module. The mobility platform supports portable devices including scanners, tablet PCs and smartphones. Features will include alert view notifications and mobile calendaring. Any customer with mobility support within the organization’s infrastructure can take advantage of this upcoming technology.

ABS Nautical Systems Signs Wins OSV Fleet Contract

Oceanografia S.A. de C.V., one of Mexico’s largest offshore vessel operators specializing in underwater survey, diving, pipe laying construction and maintenance operations, has signed a contract with ABS Nautical Systems to implement the NS5 Enterprise asset management software across its entire fleet of multi-purpose offshore support vessels. Six of the vessels are ABS-classed newbuilds and will utilize the Maintenance & Repair and Drawings Management modules as part of the ABS Newbuild Program, resulting in savings for software licenses, database development and consulting services of nearly $100,000. In addition, the company will also install the Purchasing & Inventory and Crew Management modules.

ClassNK, IHIMU, DU, and IBM Japan to Develop Software

ClassNK, IHI Marine United (IHIMU), Diesel United (DU) and IBM Japan have announced they will jointly develop a ship maintenance management system to help reduce ship lifecycle cost. The jointly developed system, which will make use of the latest condition monitoring sensor technology and data analysis systems, will be offered by ClassNK as a cloud-based service to shipowners, managers and operators from June 2013. As ships face dramatically changing ocean conditions, appropriate maintenance and condition monitoring of on-board machinery is essential to ensuring smooth operations. UK's SRO Software Helps in Timely Delivery of Australia FPSO

Working on a project to develop oilfields in the southern Timor Sea PTTEP built a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The FPSO is a sophisticated vessel with hundreds of pieces of equipment that need to kept in good working order 24/7. To achieve this SRO's IBM Maximo asset management software was used. SRO managing director, Steve Driver, explained: “[The project] requires robust preventive and corrective maintenance processes that needed Maximo to work effectively. The most important challenge was to keep the maintenance and procurement processes in sync between Perth, Darwin and the offshore FPSO. Formosa Plastics Marine Selects ABS Nautical Systems

ABS Nautical Systems announced that its fully integrated asset management software suite NS5 has been selected for trial by Formosa Plastics Marine Corp. (FPMC), part of the Formosa Plastics Group - the only privately owned Taiwan oil refinery and the second largest gasoline and gasoil producer in Taiwan. This new relationship marks the entry of ABS Nautical Systems into the Taiwan market and continues its expansion throughout Asia. FPMC will evaluate several modules from the NS5 software suite through the ABS Newbuild Program including Maintenance & Repair, Hull Inspection and Drawings Management. When making a decision to assess ABS Nautical Systems’ offerings, FPMC was particularly interested in the software’s capability for class integration with the ABS Eagle Survey Manager program.

VT Sells off Software Division

Support services and shipbuilding company VT Group has sold its software subsidiary VT Software Solutions to Civica Plc for $5.8m. Software Solutions was acquired by VT as one of the Lex vehicle support businesses purchased from the RAC Group earlier this year. The company's major business is supplying asset management software used in the vehicle management and social housing market, through the Tranman and Servitor products respectively. VT Group chairman Mike Jeffries said: 'We have conducted a comprehensive business review of our vehicle support acquisitions and decided that Software Solutions was not aligned with our core business.
