Cable Trackers Help Diving Companies and Military

Trying to locate subsea power and communications cables has always been a difficult job. Regulations require cables be buried from several feet to several meters under the ocean bottom to prevent snagging by boat anchors and fishing trawls. The amount of overburden on a cable often means it’s too deep to be located with conventional metal detection equipment. The device that has proved most effective in finding them is a cable tracker. This system has two parts, a signal injector and a probe. The injector is attached to the shore end of a line and induces a signal into one of the conductors.

CADC Publish Diver Delta P Guidelines

This guideline by the Canadian Association of Diving Contractors (CADC) provides a basic understanding of the forces and hazards associated with Delta P. The Canadian Association of Diving Contractors (CADC) recently published definitive guidance for divers working in differential pressure (Delta P) environments. Statistics from several occupational health and safety sources indicate that a high number of commercial diving accidents are linked to a lack of proper understanding of the hazards posed by differential pressures (Delta P) in various underwater work environments. Differential pressure, known as "Delta P," can present unique and deadly hazards to divers. Differential pressures are created when two bodies of water intersect, each with a different water level, such as at a dam.

Push Is On To Declutter Gulf of Idle Iron

Versabar, based in Houston and New Orleans, uses its VB 10000 for topside decommissioning, jacket removal and underwater debris removal.

Nearly two years ago, the Obama Administration tightened rules for removing “idle iron” – old oil platforms and pipelines – and on plugging unused wells in the Gulf of Mexico. That September 2010 move was part of a federal crackdown on deepwater oil and gas operations following the 2010 BP spill. Since then, heavy-lift companies have continued to rid the Gulf of unused structures and other firms have positioned themselves for that work. Under the 2010 rules, wells that hadn't been used for five years were to be abandoned or “zonally isolated” within three years after Oct. 15, 2010.
