Global Maritime Community Gathers in Singapore

Amid structural and cyclical changes brought about by over-capacity, mega-alliances, increasing digitisation, as well as economic and geopolitical uncertainties, Singapore remains a premier global hub port and leading international maritime centre that held steady growth in 2016. In the face of headwinds, Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2017 – organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) – will rally the global maritime industry for a week of discussions and networking to address critical issues impacting the regional and international maritime scene today. Into its 12th year, SMW will feature a record number of 34 events, including 20 business forums, eight networking receptions and six community outreach events.

SSA Showcases OSV Sector with OSV@Vivo 'Open House'

OSV@Vivo has been taken to the heart of the Singapore public with an anticipated 4,000 visitors, expected to throng the two state-of-the-art Offshore Support Vessels (OSV) “Pacific Legacy” and “VOS Prince” moored at local shopping mall Vivocity Waterfront Promenade from 21 to 23 April 2016. Local institutes of higher learning are lending their support to this inaugural event with some 600 students from the Institute of Technical Education and Ngee Ann Polytechnic already registered to attend. This industry-led project, spearheaded by the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week, is designed to create awareness of the offshore marine sector – a key sector in the Singapore maritime industry.

IRClass' Expansion in SE Asia Underway

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) is gearing up to expand its activities in Singapore and throughout South East Asia with plans for opening two more offices in the region over the next two years. IRClass, with a diverse portfolio of services across the marine sector, will be hosting the second meeting of its Singapore Advisory Committee on Friday 18 March. The remit of the committee, which is chaired by Denis Welch, Asia-Pacific director of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), is to advise on strategic growth opportunities in The Lion Republic and across the region. The committee includes key influential figures from the maritime and offshore sectors in Singapore.

Drydocks World in Discussions with Singapore Delegation

Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World received the Singapore's Non-Resident Ambassador (NRA) to the United Arab Emirates, HE Tee Tua Ba and his accompanying delegation and held discussions on topics of mutual interest. Discussions revolved around the company’s future business strategy and action plan for the company’s Singapore-based operations, areas of mutual co-operation and exchange of know-how and technical expertise and identifying areas of further development of relations and partnerships. Drydocks World is actively engaged with several maritime organizations at various levels in Singapore such as Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI).

Keppel O&M Training Center Opens

The newly opened Keppel Offshore & Marine Group Training Centre is poised to be a centre of excellence for technical and specialised skills training. (), the technical and specialized skill training center of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M), has enhanced its capacity to 3,500 training places per annum with its new facilities in . The Center will be a one-stop training facility where employees and subcontractors can register for courses, undergo training, receive certification and apply for relevant trade licences. Keppel O&M’s annual investment in training was S$17 million for 2006 and 2007 each. This is expected to rise to S$23 million in 2008…

Hoe, Yick Appointed at Keppel

Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M) appointed Hoe Eng Hock as the Executive Director of Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd with effect from July 1, 2005, following the retirement of Goh Boon Kiat on June 30, 2005. Hoe, 54 years old, will oversee the business operations and strategic development of Keppel Singmarine. A Colombo Plan scholar, he has served and held various senior management positions in the Keppel group of companies since 1975. Hoe was country manager in charge of Keppel’s businesses in Philippines between 1991 and 2002. Prior to this new appointment, he was the Senior General Manager (Production) of Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd.
