Atlas Copco Compressors acquires Compressed Air Products

Atlas Copco has acquired the operating assets of Compressed Air Products, Inc. (CAP). CAP sells to a broad range of industrial customer segments and has a strong service business.CAP is located in Newnan, Ga., southwest of Atlanta and will become a direct branch of Atlas Copco Compressors. Twenty people will join Atlas Copco as a result of this acquisition. CAP has been an Atlas Copco Compressors distributor for many years.“We are very proud to announce that Compressed Air Products (CAP), and its great team, have joined the Atlas Copco family.

Smith Taken on Rolls-Royce Holdings Board

Rolls-Royce Holdings plc today announces the appointment of Sir Kevin Smith CBE as a Non-Executive Director. Sir Kevin will join the Board with effect from 1 November 2015 and will become a member of the Nominations and Governance Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Science & Technology Committee. Sir Kevin joins from Unitas Capital, a leading Asian private equity firm, where he has been a full-time partner based in Hong Kong since joining the firm in February 2012. He has used his extensive industrial leadership experience to work closely with Unitas' portfolio companies, including being a director of technology company Edwards Group Limited (previously NASDAQ listed) from March 2012 until its sale to Atlas Copco in August 2013.

"John Carnall will focus on developing our services and building a world-class service organisation to drive profitable growth. Atlas Copco Debuts WEDA Small Range Pumps

Atlas Copco has introduced a new small range of WEDA pumps to provide fast and efficient dewatering. In addition to the original nine pumps, the WEDA04 and WEDA08 provide drainage pumping, with the WEDA08S for sludge pumping and the WEDA04B for low suction pumping. The WEDA04 drainage pump is equipped with a 400-watt electric motor, while the WEDA08 features a 750-watt electric motor. The polyurethane semi-vortex impeller reduces the risk of clogging, making it ideal for construction sites or industrial pits.

Atlas Copco Acquires Grupo Electrogenos

Atlas Copco SAE has acquired Grupo Electrógenos GESAN S.A. of Spain, a manufacturer of diesel and petrol generators sold through a global distributor network. The deal strengthens Atlas Copco’s product portfolio, especially for customers in emerging markets. Gesan, which is privately owned, had revenues in 2010 of MEUR 56 (MSEK 510). The company employs about 160 people and is based in Zaragoza, Spain, where it has a production and assembly facility. Its generators are used for primary power supply and for standby purposes, ranging in sizes up to nearly twice as high as Atlas Copco’s current offering. The distributor network reaches more than 85 countries, with Europe, Africa and Russia as the most important markets.

Atlas Copco Taps James River Equipment

Atlas Copco welcomes its newest drilling equipment distributor, James River Equipment. The company, well-known as a heavy equipment supplier, will represent Atlas Copco in the Carolinas for blasthole rigs, other surface drilling rigs and equipment, and Secoroc rock drilling tools. In North Carolina, James River Equipment will also distribute Atlas Copco’s Dynapac compaction and paving equipment. Equipment covered by this new relationship includes surface crawlers such as Atlas Copco’s SmartROC, FlexiROC, and PowerROC surface rigs, the ROC L8 and the SmartRig F9C. James River Equipment will also sell and service Atlas Copco Secoroc rock drilling tools.

Wärtsilä Appoints Rosengren President and CEO

Wärtsilä's Board of Directors has appointed Mr Björn Rosengren M.Sc. (Tech.), born 1959, as the new President and CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation. He will assume the position on 1 September 2011, succeeding Mr Ole Johansson, who will retire. Currently Mr Rosengren works as Senior Executive Vice President Atlas Copco AB and as Business Area President for Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique, and is based in Shanghai, China. Mr Rosengren has held several management positions in the Swedish industrial group Atlas Copco since 1998.

New Cargo Ship for Lake Tanganyika Launched In Burundi

At 12,700 square miles (32,890 sq km) in area, Lake Tanganyika is the second largest in Africa. It is larger than North America’s Lake Eire (9,910 sq. mi.) and over half the size of Lake Michigan (22,300 sq.mi.). Ships have operated on it since before the First World War when Germany and Britain had some minor naval battles there. This past August a new ship, the M/V Teza, began working the waters of the great lake. Built entirely in Burundi by the Batralac firm, under the management of Basil Demeris the vessel will be operated on the lake by the same company. Designed by the Greek company of Chris Simopoulos & Associates, the 60 by 11-metre ship is powered by a pair of Cummins KT19 marine diesels rated 425 HP each at 1800 RPM.

Great Ship - SK Supreme

Samsung Heavy Industries Co. is scheduled to deliver by year's end, the largest size LNG carrier of GTT Mark-III membrane type and is scheduled to deliver two more vessels within 2000. Supreme, a 138,000 cu. m. LNG Carrier has been designed and constructed with the regulation of ABS and KR classification societies and the membrane cargo containment system developed by GTT (Gaz Transport & Technigaz) in France. The cargo tanks are protected by a complete double side/bottom, cofferdam between each tanks and trunk at topside. For the hull and cargo containment system of cargo tank, Dynamic Load Analysis and extended fatigue analysis have been carried out to ensure the vessel's high reliability and long lifetime.
