MAN Diesel & Turbo Tallies Chinese Dredger Contracts

Over a period of four months, MAN Diesel & Turbo has won contracts for four Chinese dredger newbuildings. Chinese outfits CHECD, Jiangsu Haixin and Huanghua Port Bureau recently chose MAN medium-speed engines for trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) newbuildings. CHEC Dredging Company Ltd. (CHECD) – a subsidiary of CCCC Shanghai Dredging Company Ltd., a branch of CCCC Dredging Company Ltd. (CDC), one of the leading dredging companies in the world and the largest in China – chose complete propulsion packages from MAN Diesel & Turbo for their new 2 × 6,500 m3 TSHDs.

MAN 32/40 Package for Chinese Dredger

Jiangsu Haihong Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. has ordered four MAN 32/40 engines in connection with an order for two 8,000-cubic-meter trailing suction hopper dredgers. MAN’s scope of delivery covers two shipsets, each including a propulsion package consisting of two 9L32/40 engines, a MAN Alpha twin-screw VBS860 CP propeller, single marine reduction RSVL-800 gearboxes from Renk, plus a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that enables the engines to fulfill Tier III in liquid mode. Sovcomflot Takes Delivery of Dual-Fuel Power

Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company, has taken delivery of its latest LNG carrier, the Velikiy Novgorod, from South Korea’s STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. The ship is equipped with a diesel-electric, dual-fuel propulsion system consisting of 2 × MAN 8L51/60DF and 2 × MAN 9L51/60DF engines, offering a total rated power of 34 MW, which were constructed at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Augsburg plant in Germany. The propulsion facility provides the LNG carrier with a highly efficient, low-emission propulsion system, especially when running in gas mode.

Greek Shipowners See Advantage of Fuel-Sharing Mode

More LNG Carriers employing 51/60DF engines. MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the contract to supply the engines for two Greek LNG carriers (LNGCs). The installation of the MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel engines aboard the newbuildings represents an important first such reference for the company in the segment. The configuration for the new order covers 2 × 9L51/60DF + 2 × 8L51/60DF engines, a total of 34 MW installed power per vessel. All of the engines are IMO Tier II-compliant in diesel mode and will have lower exhaust-gas emissions in gas mode than IMO Tier III stipulates – fuel-sharing mode will be applied to each unit. The customer is Athens-based Alpha Tankers and Freighters International Ltd. Both newbuildings will be 160,000 m³ carriers and are DFDE (dual-fuel diesel electrical)-driven.

MAN Diesel & Turbo wins contract to supply the engines for two Greek LNG carriers (LNGCs). The configuration for the new order covers 2 × 9L51/60DF + 2 × 8L51/60DF engines, a total of 34 MW installed power per vessel. All of the engines are IMO Tier II-compliant in diesel mode and will have lower exhaust-gas emissions in gas mode than IMO Tier III stipulates – fuel-sharing mode will be applied to each unit. The customer is Athens-based Alpha Tankers and Freighters International Ltd. Both newbuildings will be 160,000 m³ carriers and are DFDE (dual-fuel diesel electrical)-driven. An option for further vessels and engines exists. Due for construction at STX Offshore & Shipping Co. Ltd.

MAN Dual-Fuel Engines to Drive Russian Gas Carriers

The largest Russian ship owner, Sovcomflot, recently selected the dual-fuel MAN 51/60DF engine for an LNG carrier program, consisting of two confirmed vessels with an option for two more vessels. The dual-fuel diesel electric propulsion system and the MAN 51/60DF engine have been selected to provide the vessels with a highly efficient and low emissions propulsion system, especially when running in gas mode. A high degree of redundancy and the MAN 51/60 DF engine’s multiple fueling options have been also taken into account. The vessels are currently under construction at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding in South Korea and will each be driven by sets of two 8L and two 9L51/60DF engines.

MAN Diesel SE has Celebrates Delivery Milestone

Among total orders for over 140 of its type 58/64 heavy fuel engine sold to China in the past 6 years, the Augsburg works of MAN Diesel recently delivered the 100th example of its seven cylinder, inline configuration type 7L58/64 type engine to a Chinese shipyard. The special success of the seven cylinder version of the 58/64 is based on its popularity as the main engine in the type CV 1100 TEU container feeder ship. This vessel type is built at a number of shipyards in China, including the Jinling, Jiandong and Qingshan facilities of the CSC Group. As its name indicates, the CV 1100 TEU feeder has container carrying capacity of 1100 twenty foot equivalent units. MAN Diesel reports that this vessel type was first built in Europe and the design transferred to China in the early 2000’s.

MAN B&W Capitalizes Offshore

MAN B&W Diesel has positioned itself on the offshore market, having sold more than 80 engines to the sector so far this year. The leading supplier of large-bore diesel engines has been receiving a particularly high number of orders from Norway and Singapore. The engines ordered are destined for use in nearly all areas of offshore oil and gas extraction, including FPSO, research vessels, platform supply vessels (PSV), anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS), pipelay vessels, remote operated vehicle vessels (ROV) and drilling vessels. Some of the engines are from the 27/38 and the 21/31 series, which are produced in Frederikshavn, Denmark, while others are from the 32/40 series, which are manufactured by MAN B&W’s Augsburg plant and also by its Korean licensee STX Engines.
