Thordon Taps Bruntons as UK & Ireland Distributor

Aussie Pump Provides Operator Training at Garden Island Dockyard

Australian manufacturer and designer of high pressure cleaning equipment Australian Pump said it was chosen to design and build 4,000 psi high pressure water blasters for Sydney’s Garden Island Dockyard applications.Designed for working on a wide range of vessels in the dry dock, the machines, called the Aussie Atlas, feature an all stainless steel construction and produce a 4,000 psi, 16 liter per minute performance.With up to 30 machines working at any one time in the dock, safety is a key issue.

Fairbanks Morse LLC, Beloit, Wisconsin (N3220518D4901); and MAN Diesel and Turbo Middle East LLC, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (N3220518D4902), are being awarded a combined cumulative $33,344,779 ceiling multiple award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for a broad range of parts and services of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and/or OEM authorized distributors, parts provider, or service technicians to maintain the following diesel engines contained within multiple Military Sealift Command classes of ships ALCO 251F, Colt-Pielstick PC4.2, Fairbanks Morse 38D 8-1/8, MAN 6L 48/60, MAN 8L 48/60, MAN 9L 48/60, and MAN 12V 48/60CR. Work will be performed at locations worldwide, and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2019.

Small Unmanned Boat 'Pioneer' Makes NjordWorks Debut

Manufacturer of small unmanned vehicles, NjordWorks Inc., based in  Niceville, Florida, announce the debut of the 'Pioneer' unmanned boat for civil and commercial use. The Pioneer unmanned boat, or unmanned surface vehicle (USV), lives up to its name, say the manufacturers, as being the first in a class of small unmanned vehicles designed for very shallow and difficult to access bodies of water. Like other unmanned vehicles, the Pioneer’s mission is to perform dull, dirty and dangerous jobs either as a replacement for or complement to manned boats, swimmers and shore-side personnel.

TDI Expands in Dayton

At a time when many companies are scaling back, Tech Development (TDI), a Dayton, Ohio manufacturer of turbine air starters and aerospace machinery has just completed a 49,000 sq. ft building addition to expand its manufacturing capability. The 49,000 sq. ft addition doubles the manufacturing floor space for TDI. “The additional space allows us to improve efficiencies by creating cellularized work areas and an overall better work flow in the plant,” continued Rawlins. In 2008, when facility construction began, TDI was celebrating its 50-year anniversary. Over the last 12 months, the company has introduced nine new products and has plans for even more. “The completion of this building expansion is pivotal to TDI’s growth strategy,” said Rawlins.

Web Site for Detroit Diesel 2-Cycle Engines

MTU has launched a new Web site (www.2-cycle.mtu-online.com) dedicated exclusively to 2-cycle diesel engines and their proper maintenance. While the brand name on the engine may say Detroit Diesel, the support for that 2-Cycle engine is actually provided by MTU and its global network of authorized distributors. This name difference has caused some customer confusion, leaving 2-Cycle owners to wonder about the availability of factory parts and service for these legacy engines. “The 2-Cycle business is alive and well,” says MTU 2-Cycle parts product planning manager Lisa Farrens. “Many customers have been led to believe that Detroit Diesel doesn’t do 2-Cycle anymore.

Revised MARPOL Annex VI, NOx Tech. Code

A new publication is now available from IMO Publications on the revised international regulations on preventing and reducing harmful emissions from ships, such as sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter. IMO Releases Performance Standards for Radiocommunications

A new consolidated edition containing all IMO adopted performance standards for shipborne radiocommunications and navigational equipment is now available. Performance Standards for Shipborne Radiocommunications and Navigational Equipment (2008 Edition) is essential reading for the shipbuilding industry, manufacturers of equipment, shipyards and Administrations. ·                 Provision of radio services for the GMDSS. IAMSAR Volumes Available

New editions of the three volumes of the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) Manual have just been published jointly by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in English, French and Spanish. They include all amendments that were adopted between 2001 and 2007 by IMO's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) and ICAO. Volume I Organization and Management discusses the global search and rescue (SAR) system concept, establishment and improvement of national and regional SAR systems, and co-operation with neighbouring States to provide effective and economical SAR services. Volume II Mission Co-ordination assists personnel who plan and coordinate SAR operations and exercises.
