Italian Navy Launches Offshore Patrol Ship

GE Marine's LM2500+G4 gas turbine will  power the Italian Navy’s new Paolo Thaon di Revel Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) a hybrid-electric, multipurpose offshore patrol ship that was launched in mid-June and will be delivered in 2021.Being built at Fincantieri Shipyard in Muggiano – La Spezia, Italy, the PPA patrol ship will serve multiple functions from patrol with sea rescue capacity to civil protection operations. It is 133 meters long and can carry 90 crew members with additional accommodations for up to 171 members.

GE Powers New Italian Frigate

Federico Martinengo, the seventh multipurpose FREMM frigate recently delivered to the Italian Navy by shipyard Fincantieri, like all 10 ships in the new Carlos Bergamini-class FREMM frigate program, features the power dense GE LM2500+G4 gas turbine in a COmbined Diesel eLectric And Gas turbine (CODLAG) propulsion system.In 2013, Fincantieri delivered the first Italian FREMM, Carlo Bergamini. In addition to the Italian FREMM frigates, DCNS shipyard in Lorient, France, is well underway having delivered six FREMM frigates in a 10-ship program.

GE’s Marine Solutions has announced that the seventh multi-purpose Italian FREMM frigate Federico Martinengo, was launched on March 4. The ceremony was held at Fincantieri’s Riva Trigoso shipyard in Genoa, Italy. All of the Italian Navy’s new Carlos Bergamini-class  FREMM frigates (10-ship program) feature the same power dense GE LM2500+G4 gas turbine in a COmbined Diesel eLectric And Gas turbine (CODLAG) propulsion system. GE Gas Turbine to Power Italian Navy Patrol Ship

GE’s Marine Solutions announced it will provide a LM2500+G4 gas turbine that will power the Italian Navy’s new Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose offshore patrol ship. The PPA’s hybrid electric propulsion system also will use GE’s shock-proof MV3000 drives and a GE-designed electrical network of motors as part of the propulsion system. Avio Aero, a GE Aviation business headquartered in Italy, will have the design responsibility for the gas turbine package. The PPA ship will be built by Fincantieri at its Integrated Shipyard of Riva Trigoso and Muggiano.

GE Inks Turbine Service Deal for Fastest Commercial Ship

GE Marine announced it will provide Buquebus, Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a customized service agreement for the two GE LM2500 gas turbines aboard the Francisco fast ferry. The 10-year agreement provides for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the dual fuel gas turbines that power the world’s fastest commercial ship. “We worked closely with Buquebus to fashion a gas turbine maintenance agreement that would meet their specific needs and ensure reliable operation of this very popular fast ferry,” said Brien Bolsinger, Vice President, Marine Operations, GE Marine, Evendale, Ohio.

GE Gas Turbine to Power Italian Frigate

GE Marine has received an order to supply one LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine to Avio Aero of Turin, Italy, a GE Aviation business. The gas turbine will power the Italian Navy’s eighth FREMM frigate. Through Avio Aero, at least 17 LM2500+G4 gas turbines are expected to provide propulsion for the Italian-French-Moroccan FREMM program, which includes eight ships each for the Italian and French navies and one ship for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Other international navies are considering the FREMM frigate for use in their fleets.

GE to Supply Avio Aero with Gas Turbine for French Frigate

GE Marine has received an order to supply one LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine to Avio Aero of Turin, Italy, a GE Marine System Supplier. The gas turbine will power the French Navy’s ninth FREMM frigate. Through Avio Aero, at least 18 LM2500+G4 gas turbines will provide propulsion for the Italian-French FREMM program, which includes six ships for the Italian Navy, 11 ships for the French Navy, and one ship for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Other international navies are considering the FREMM frigate for use in their fleets.
