Cummins Inc. announced the new classification of its X15 marine engine that now meet safety standards for ABS, BV, RINA and DNV.“Classification society certifications are integral to the safety of the commercial marine industry,” comments Eric Marini, Global Marine Product Planning and Management Leader. “As part of our continued investment in the marine market, the X15 is Typed Approved under the strictest validation test to meet the safety requirements from class societies.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. introduced its new 120-ft., 4,200-hp Inland Towboat design, Thunderbolt, combining twin electric V-Pod propulsion and diesel-electric technology for what the builder calls its “vision of the future for the U.S. Eastern said the idea for the Thunderbolt came from a conversation at a trade show. On the rivers, thruster propulsion systems are starting to get noticed and are outperforming conventional nozzle propeller propulsion systems with main/flanking rudder steering. Eastern Debuts ‘Thunderbolt’ Towboat

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. introduced its new 120-foot, 4,200-horsepower Inland Towboat design, THUNDERBOLT, combining twin electric V-Pod propulsion and diesel-electric technology for what the builder calls its “vision of the future for the U.S. Eastern said the idea for the THUNDERBOLT came from across the aisle conversations at the 2013 International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. On the rivers, thruster propulsion systems are starting to get noticed and are outperforming conventional nozzle propeller propulsion systems with main/flanking rudder steering. Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. and Verhaar Omega, B.V. began discussions and realized they were driving towards a more refined towboat thruster propulsion system design.

DBR Generatorsets Wins Large Repeat Order

DBR will supply emergency/harbor diesel generator sets for six new pipelaying vessels under construction at IHC Merwede in the Netherlands for Subsea 7 and SapuraKencana. The order for the custom engineered units, generating up to 1,875 kVA, follows DBR’s successful delivery of three similar generator sets for IHC Merwede in 2013. For each of the six new generator sets, DBR selected Mitsubishi diesel engines and either 800 kVA Leroy Somer or 1,875 kVA AvK generators. The delivery includes cooler and control panels, and the units can operate in up to 50ºC air on temperature.

Cummins Launches QSK60 Power Emergency Genset

Cummins announced the latest addition to the C Power product line, the QSK60 C Power (CP) emergency generator set. Engineered by the Cummins Center of Excellence for the demands of offshore applications, the QSK60 C Power genset is driven by the QSK60 marine auxiliary engine with MCRS fuel system. This engine has been used in diesel electric propulsion and power generation since 2008. “With an expected growth of 17-20% over the next five years, the offshore market is one of the fastest growing and technically advanced segments in the commercial marine industry.

When Gustaf de Laval read in 1877 an article in the German periodical ”Milchzeitung” (Milk News Paper) about centrifugal separators, he certainly did not expect that it would lead to his founding of a global acting company with around 16,400 employees nearly 140 years later. His first continuous separator, with a capacity of 130 liters per hour, was demonstrated 1879 in Stockholm; and four years later, in 1883, he and his partner, Oscar Lamm, established the company AB Separator.

MAN Diesel Powers Danish Navy OPVs

After delivery from Karstensens Shipyard, Denmark, the second Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) for the Danish Greenland operation entered official command under the Royal Danish Navy on 16 January. The vessel, which has been named Ejnar Mikkelsen (P571), is built for a wide range of arctic and coastal operations, like its predecessor. The newbuilding is expected to enter North Atlantic service at the end of February 2009 and follows the first vessel, Knud Rasmussen (P570), which was commissioned into the Royal Danish Navy on 18 February 2008.

Singapore Comissions 3 Warships

Singapore commissioned three state-of-the art warships, according to a release from the Singapore Ministry of Defense. RSS INTREPID, RSS STEADFAST and RSS TENACIOUS, the second, third and fourth Formidable-Class frigates from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) will be commissioned into the RSN's operational service, having completed their sea trials and operational training.

First of GPA-654 Supply Vessel Delivered by Bollinger

The first of 10 new Rigdon GPA-654 platform supply vessels, appropriately named First and Ten, has been delivered from Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana. Another 22 of the vessels of the same 190-foot design are on order by Bourbon Offshore from a Chinese yard. As with earlier Guido Perla-designed supply vessels, the diesel-electric propulsion power in these vessels is being supplied by Cummins Mid-South LLC of Kenner Louisiana. For these vessels the diesel electric package consist of two Cummins KTA-50DM1-powered1235 KW and one Cummins KTA-19DM1-powered 425 KW main propulsion generators and one 6BTA5.9G-85 KW SOLAS emergency standby generator.
