Kongsberg's Propulsion and Control System for Scandlines' Zero-emission Ferry

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime said Friday it would supply a complete propulsion and control system package for a forthcoming Scandlines zero-emissions ferry which, when built, is destined to be the world’s largest all-electric double-ended ferry. The ferry has been designed by LMG Marin AS in Norway and will be constructed at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, in cooperation with Scandline’s vessel-newbuild experts. The freight ferry is expected to enter service in 2024. The new 147.4 meters

Support Vessel Delivered to Oceaneering

Oceaneering International announced Monday that it has taken delivery of a newbuild subsea construction support vessel, Ocean Evolution, built by BAE Systems in the US.The US-flagged, Jones Act-compliant multi-service vessel (MSV) has completed sea trials and received all necessary ABS and U.S. Coast Guard certifications and is currently in Port Fourchon, La., completing final outfitting and preparing for project work scheduled to begin in June.Oceaneering said the vessel is designed

Havila Kystruten, Kongsberg Ink Long-term Service Deal

Havila Kystruten and Kongsberg have signed a 10-year  â€œPower-by-the-Hour” service agreement for four new coastal cruise vessels that are currently under construction. The contract value is 150 million kroner ($17.5 million).Power-by-the-Hour was launched in 2017, and was first sold to the cargo operator NorLines the same year. The agreement means that the vessel owner is handing the responsibility for service planning and performance back to the equipment’s supplier, Kongsberg Maritime. The customer pays a fixed charge per hour of operation, per ship.

Rolls-Royce Power for Havyard Ro-Pax Vessels

The Norwegian ship owning company Havila Kystruten AS, has ordered four new build Ro-Pax vessels of Havyard 923 design. Rolls-Royce's Autocrossing System for 13 New Ferries

Rolls-Royce Marine has signed a deal to supply its Autocrossing system to a total of 13 new environmentally friendly ferries for the Norwegian company Fjord1. The vessels are currently being built by three yards in Turkey and two yards in Norway. All contracts also include two azipull propellers for each vessel with accompanying propeller control system from Rolls-Royce. With this contract, Rolls-Royce has sold autocrossing to a  total of 18 new ferries to operate along the coast of Norway, of which 16 have been ordered by Fjord1 and two by another Norwegian ferry company, FosenNamsos Sjø.

‘World’s Greenest Cruise Ship’ Construction Underway

Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam pressed the button to officially kick off the construction of hybrid expedition cruise ship MS Roald Amundsen – “the greenest cruise ship the world has ever seen,” according to the ship owner. The new ship is the first of a new generation that will change expedition travel forever, Skjeldam said during the ceremony at Kleven Yards on the western coast of Norway. When launched in 2018, MS Roald Amundsen will be the world’s first expedition cruise ship powered by hybrid battery technology.

Rolls-Royce Inks Landmark Automatic Ferry Crossing System Deal

Rolls-Royce has signed a deal to supply its first automatic crossing system to Norwegian ferry company Fjord1. The system, the first of its kind, will control two new double-ended battery ferries as they cross between Anda and Lote on the 1330 km long E39 which connects communities along the west coast of Norway. Battery powered ferries have strict yearly limits on energy consumption as part of the commercial agreement between the ferry operator and the government. Automatic systems ensure consistent behaviour during the journey and hence predictable energy consumption. The automatic crossing system ensures safe and energy-efficient transit back and forth by automatically controlling the vessel’s acceleration, deceleration, speed and track.

Rolls-Royce Propulsion for another Norwegian Ferry

Rolls-Royce informs it has signed a contract to deliver two Azipull propellers for a new double-ended car ferry being built in Norway. The contract includes an option to supply propellers for two additional ferries. The new ferry will operate in North Norway for owner Torghatten Trafikkselskap. These types of double-ended ferries are designed to commute back and forth between ferry quays along the Norwegian coastline. The new ferry will be built by Fiskerstrand yard, near Ålesund.

Rolls-Royce Delivers Propulsion for Norwegian Ferries

Rolls-Royce has signed contracts with Bastø-Fosen and Fjord 1 in Norway for azimuth propulsion systems for five new double ended ferries. The ferries are scheduled to enter into service along the coast of Norway in the summer of 2016. The contract value to Rolls-Royce is £5.5 million in total. All five ferries are designed by Multi Maritime and will be constructed in Turkey at the yards Sefine, Cemre and ADA. These types of double ended ferries are designed to commute back and forth between ferry quays along the rugged Norwegian coastline.

Rolls-Royce Bags £12 mi Order from Myklebusthaug Management

Rolls-Royce has won a £12 million order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for a highly advanced multipurpose service vessel for the Norwegian ship owner Myklebusthaug Management to be built at the BeƟiktaƟ Shipyard in Turkey. This latest contract will see the first UT design vessel to be built by a Turkish shipyard. Around 800 Rolls-Royce UT vessels have been built or are under construction since the first one entered service 40 years ago. The vessel is a brand new design type from Rolls-Royce. The UT 7521 WP will be prepared for a range of offshore duties. The overall length of the vessel will be 98.9 metres with a beam of 21 metres and deadweight of approx. 6000 tons.

Rolls-Royce Secures Offshore Vessel Order

Global power systems company Rolls-Royce signed an £11 million contract with Spanish shipyard Gondan for a wave piercing offshore vessel to be delivered to Simon Møkster Shipping in Norway. According to Rolls-Royce, the vessel is designed to pierce through the waves under harsh weather conditions, making it possible to keep a more constant speed, reduce the use of fuel and increase on board safety. This fits with Simon Møkster’s philosophy of developing the most environmentally friendly fleet possible.

Seatankers Takes PSV Delivery

On January 27, 2014, three weeks after the last delivery in the Seatankers twelve series, Zhejiang delivered the seventh platform supply ship, Sea Spider, to the Seatankers Group. All twelve PSVs are designed by Ulstein. Sinopacific’s Zhejiang yard in Ningbo, China, entered into a contract with Ulstein for the delivery of twelve design packages for platform support vessels of the PX105 design for Seatankers Group. The first delivery was in Q1 2013. The PX105 designed vessels are considered as large PSVs.

Rolls-Royce, GPA Collaboration Pays Dividends

Rolls-Royce and Guido Perla and Associates, Inc. (GPA) collaborative efforts are delivering results for customers in North America. Rolls-Royce and GPA most recently teamed up last year to provide a highly innovative design and power & propulsion systems integration solution for two PSVs for Jackson Offshore Operators. Delivery of the first two GPA 675J PSVs, currently under construction at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida, will be made in 2014. The option for two additional vessels of the same type was exercised earlier this year.

Flexible fuels, Bold designs ... Eastern Shipbuilding Group has arguably been one of the more progressive and aggressive U.S. builders of high-spec Offshore Service Vessels in recent years, winning a number of high-profile contracts for operators globally. Eastern recently delivered M/V HOS Red Dawn and christened M/V HOS Renaissance, both for Hornbeck Offshore Services, LLC. HOS Red Dawn (H201) – now delivered – was launched on February 15, 2013. HOS Red Rock (H202) was launched April 19, 2013, and is currently at Eastern completing final outfitting, regulatory and DP-2 trials.

Seatankers Receives Third Ulstein-designed PSV

The third Ulstein designed platform supply vessel of the PX105 design for Seatankers, Sea Forth, was delivered on August 16, 2013 from the Zhejiang yard in Ningbo. Ulstein delivers twelve design and equipment packages to the Chinese yard, where all the vessels for Seatankers Group will be constructed. The packages include design, engineering and equipment supplies. The ships comply with the DNV requirements of the Clean or Clean Design standards. The ship is designed with the patented X-BOW hull line design.

Rolls-Royce Subsea Construction Vessel Delivered to Island Offshore

Island Crown is the latest vessel to come from the relationship between Island Offshore and Rolls-Royce. Once again the UT 776 CD has been selected as the basis for a vessel to meet some special offshore requirements. Over the past few years, the Norwegian shipowner has added several batches of the UT 776 platform supply vessel to its fleet, including two fuelled with LNG. This time around, the design brief was a vessel that will usually spend its time connected to an offshore platform, acting as a hotel for people working on the platform.

Rolls-Royce to Supply Propulsion for Battery-Powered Ferry

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract for the delivery of its Azipull propulsion and control system for the "ferry of the future," a new vessel which will operate on battery power alone. The vessel is being built at the Fjellstrand yard in Norway, and once in service will be operated by Norwegian transport company Norled between Lavik and Oppedal. In 2010, the Norwegian Ministry of Transport announced a tender to develop a new ferry that was 15-20% more energy efficient than existing vessels.
