Bach Dang Shipbuilding Co. Delivers Bulk Carrier

The first of a series of eight 22,500-ton ships to be built under a contract between the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) and the Vietnam National Shipping Lines Corporation (Vinalines) was delivered on March 27. The Golden Falcon Ship, built by the Bach Dang Shipbuilding Company – an affiliate of Vinashin, was launched since November 2006. The cargo ship was designed by VINAKITA, a joint venture between Vinashin and Japan’s KITADA, with a 6,230HP main engine. It was built under the supervision of NK, a Japanese registration agency. The 153.2m-long and 26m-wide ship is the biggest bulk carrier built by the Bach Dang Shipbuilding Company and will be operated by Falcon Shipping Company – a subsidiary of Vinalines which specialises in transporting petroleum and gas.

Dung Quat Inks $200m Freighter Deal

The Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and the Oil and Gas Shipping Investment Joint Stock Co on Tuesday signed a contract to construct ten 54,000-DWT freighters in a deal worth about $200 million. The vessels were designed by the Shipbuilding Science and Technology Institute, and are 190m long and 32m wide. Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Corp is expected to complete the first freighter by June 2008, and the remaining nine in four month intervals there after. Last month, Dung Quat Corp began building a 104,000 DWT oil tanker, which will be the largest such vessel ever made in Viet Nam when completed. Christened "Dung Quat 1", the ship will be 245m long and 43m wide, and cost $56 million.

Dung Quat Shipbuilding Wins $200m Contract

Dung Quat Shipbuilding Co. signed a US$200-million contract to build ten 54,000-ton cargo ships for Vinashin Oil and Gas Investment and Transport Joint-stock Co. The 190-m long and 32.26-m wide ships, estimated to cost some $20 million each, will be designed by the Vinashin Shipbuilding Scientific and Technological Institute and registered by DNV, a registering agency of Norway. According to the contract, the first cargo ship will be handed over in June 2008 while the remainders will be transferred with an interval of four months.
