BMT Appoints Ian Tyler as Chairman

Design, engineering and risk management consultancy BMT announced it has appointed Ian Tyler as chairman of BMT Group Ltd. Tyler joined the board on May 1 and will assume the role of Chairman in early June. Tyler has a wealth of experience with listed public companies, in both executive and nonexecutive director capacities. His business leadership experience spans multiple sectors including energy, infrastructure, technology, defense and engineering. Drydocks World-Dubai New FPSO Quay

Drydocks World - Dubai, the ship repair, conversion and building subsidiary of Drydocks World, has added two new berths to its facility, significantly increasing its conversion capacity. Completed recently, Berths 9 and 10 are now fully operational and have recently accommodated the 380-metre long TI Asia, Abuzar and Spring Bow for conversion works. The announcement comes ahead of Drydocks World’s participation at Nor-Shipping 09, in Oslo, June 9th–12th, where the company’s yard capabilities in the Middle East and Southeast Asia will be highlighted.

VT: Business is Profitable

It appears that the trend toward consolidation and acquisition can be profitable, at least in the case of British shipbuilder Vosper Thornycroft Holdings Plc, which reported to a wire service today that it expects revenue and operating profits to rise by 15-20 percent in the current year, in large part due to acquisitions. The company reportedly expects a rise in pre-tax profit in the year to March 31. U.S.-based Griffin Services Inc. -- a military facilities manager -- was among the company's six acquisitions last year. In addition to financial news, the company said that Paul Lester, the group managing director of construction and infrastructure group Balfour Beatty Plc, would replace veteran Chief Executive Martin Jay on July 1.
