Ecochlor to Retrofit Euronav Tankers

Connecticut-based ballast water treatment solutions provider Ecochlor announced a contract to supply seven Euronav Suezmax and VLCC tankers with a ballast water management system (BWMS).According to Ecochlor, the agreement comes with an option for Euronav to purchase an additional 30 Ecochlor systems for their vessels between 2020 – 2024.The fleet of Euronav, the owner, operator and manager of tankers transporting crude oil worldwide,  consists of ULCCs, VLCCs and Suezmaxes with some of these vessels having the highest ballast water flow rates in the tanker sector.Three of the Euronav ships to be retrofit with the Ecochlor BWMS have flow rates at 8,000 m3/hr., but will still only require one treatment system.

Ecochlor Harmonizes USCG and IMO Type Approvals

The provider of ballast water treatment solutions for ship builders Ecochlor announcef the complete harmonization of United States Coast Guard (USCG) Type Approval to their International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval for their line of Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment Systems.During Ecochlor’s USCG Type Approval amendment process, minor updates and improvements were made to aspects such as documentation, available filter models, and control system software, said a press release from the company.Once the USCG Type Approval amendment was complete, Ecochlor worked with DNV GL as the Recognized Organization for the Norwegian Maritime Authority to harmonize all aspects of the USCG approved system with the existing IMO Type Approval.

Damen’s First LoFlo BWTS Delivered for RNLN Submarine

Damen announced the first of its new LoFlo ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) has been delivered for installation in January 2016; the LoFlo 60 will be fitted on board the Royal Netherlands Navy’s (RNLN) submarine support ship and torpedo tender HNLMS Mercuur (A900), as part of a maintenance and refit program currently underway at Damen Shipyards Den Helder in the Netherlands. Ecochlor BWTS Selected for 8 Bulk Carriers

W Marine, Inc. has selected Ecochlor, Inc. to provide ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for installation on two newbuild 82,000 DWT bulk carriers that will be constructed in China by Sainty Marine Corporation, Ltd. In addition, W Marine has secured an option for six additional systems to be retrofit onto its existing fleet. Ecochlor’s president, Tom Perlich, said, “We are very pleased to be awarded a fleet agreement with W Marine. Ecochlor BWTS Chosen for 8 New Bulkers

Times Navigation, Inc. has selected Ecochlor, Inc. to provide ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for installation on a fleet of eight new CROWN63 (63,500 DWT) ultra-max bulk carriers that will be constructed at SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group. Wärtsilä Wins Its Largest Single BWMS Order

44 Wärtsilä AQUARIUS UV Ballast Water Management Systems will be installed on 22 bulk carriers being built for Pioneer Marine, Singapore.

A total of 22 bulk carriers, being built by Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in China for Singapore based Pioneer Marine, will feature Wärtsilä Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS). The Wärtsilä systems will enable the vessels to comply fully with the IMO's ballast water convention. The contracts were finalized in August. Each of the 38,000 DWT vessels will be fitted with two Wärtsilä AQUARIUS UV BWMS, and the scope of supply includes also the commissioning and sea trials of the equipment.

Greek VLCC Ballast Water Treatment Contract Goes to OceanSaver

Greek oil tanker operator, Almi Tankers S.A. has chosen OceanSaver Ballast Water Treatment solutions for its VLCCs currently under construction at Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. The 320,000 dwt vessels will join Almi’s fleet in July 2013 and November 2014 and are designed to exceed high environmental standards, reflecting client demand for clean & green operation. Almi Tankers currently manages two Aframax LR2 vessels and three newly-built Suezmax Crude Oil Carriers and is expecting the delivery of seven more Suezmaxes and two VLCCs by November 2014. Almi confirms the decision to choose OceanSaver follows a thorough evaluation of the company’s Mark I and Mark II BWT technology and competing suppliers.

Ratification of the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention is widely anticipated within the next 12 months. As a consequence, ship owners are evaluating as a matter of some urgency which ballast water treatment technology is best suited to both their existing and new ships. Algoma Invests in Great Lakes Shipping

Algoma Central Corporation expects to invest close to $400m in Great Lakes shipping as it takes bold steps for the future, Algoma President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Wight said during his keynote address at the Top Hat ceremony marking the 182nd opening of the Welland Canal. “This level of commitment to this industry is unprecedented,” Mr. Wight said. Algoma’s fleet renewal program is starting with the purchase of five new state-of-the-art Equinox Class vessels, with the hope to expand this order. The new Equinox Class was developed in St. Catharines, Ontario by a team of designers at Algoma’s downtown headquarters in partnership with engineers from around the world. Equinox Class ships are the next generation of bulk carriers on the Great Lakes.
