Nokian Tyres Commits to Wastewater Project in Baltic Sea

Nokian Tyres has made a commitment to the not-for-profit Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) covering, 2023–2026, to cooperate on BSAG's Ship Waste Action initiative.The goal of the initiative is to establish an operating model in which wastewater from cargo ships is discharged on shore in the harbor and the utilization of nutrients is enabled by circular economy solutions."The discharge of wastewater from cargo ships into the sea is still legal, and many shippers may not even know that wastewater from their transports is likely to end up in the Baltic Sea.

Wartsila Opens New Facility in Helsinki

Wärtsilä has opened new workshop facilities in Helsinki, Finland. The new facilities enable Wärtsilä to offer a wide range of workshop services with rapid response times. Operations in Helsinki began in early August 2011. "The new workshop is strategically located near the main shipping routes and this, together with its efficient storage arrangements, will significantly enhance our service capacity. For customers with maintenance agreements, the added component storage will reduce transportation and travel costs, and ensure prompt response times for vessels operating in the Baltic area," says Christoph Vitzthum, Group Vice President, Wärtsilä Services.

Nord Stream Shares Baltic Sea Database

At the Baltic Sea Action Summit in Helsinki on Feb. 10, Nord Stream took a further concrete step in line with its firm commitment to preserve the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream decided to establish a new Data and Information Fund to utilize its extensive knowledge and survey data for further research and preservation of the Baltic Sea. "The Baltic Sea is the home of our project. Therefore, we want to actively participate in its improvement as part of our Baltic Sea co-operation. The Baltic Sea Action Summit is a unique opportunity, bringing together various parties and investments made for the common good," said Matthias Warnig, Managing Director Nord Stream AG. The objective of the Fund is to increase existing knowledge regarding the state of the Baltic Sea and its preservation.
