RAN Base commissioned as HMAS Moreton
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) formally commissioned Navy Headquarters – South Queensland as HMAS Moreton today in a ceremony steeped in tradition. The Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, together with Senators Joanna Lindgren and Chris Ketter, joined the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC, RAN, to mark the significant and rare occasion. “The Navy last commissioned an establishment in 1978 and today’s transition of Navy Headquarters South Queensland to HMAS Moreton recognises the enduring relationship Navy has with Brisbane,” Vice Admiral Barrett said. US, Canadian Coast Guards Leaders Discuss Partnership
Rear Adm. June E. Ryan, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Ninth District, was welcomed aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Samuel Risley by Assistant Commissioner Julie Gascon and Captain Signe Gotfredsen of the Canadian Coast Guard, Central and Arctic Region Monday. After a relatively mild winter on the Great Lakes escorting ships through ice and preventing ice jams, the Samuel Risley was upbound through the Soo Locks and the St. Marys River to Lake Superior for further icebreaking at the Port of Thunder Bay and buoy-tending duties.
Aker Yards to Build Residential Cruise Ship
Residential Cruise LineLtd. (RCL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) with Aker Yards to build the world's largest residential cruise ship, the Magellan. Designed by the internationally acclaimed Norwegian firm of Petter Yranand Bjorn Storbraaten Architects A.S., the Magellan offers fractional and full-ownership of luxuriously appointed residences and penthouses as well assuch unprecedented amenities as a full-service retractable marina, on-call private Bell 429 helicopters, a 450-seat satellite broadcast capable theater and 24-hour on-call concierge service to name just a few. Private residences on the Magellan range in price from $1.875m to $8m for penthouses and from $156,250 for fractional ownership residences.
