Westwood Shipping Lines Rebrands as Swire Shipping

Swire Shipping announced that Westwood Shipping Lines, a niche vessel operator it acquired in June 2022, has changed its name to Swire Shipping.According to Sire, the rebrand—which took effect February 1—will help Westwood to leverage synergies and capabilities in containers, networks, and projects across the global Swire Shipping network to better serve customers throughout North America, Japan, South Korea and China.“The integration of Westwood Shipping Lines reflects our continued investment and expansion in the North Pacific.

Ship Captains Held by Indonesian Navy Decry Bribes and Betrayal

Plagued by mosquitoes at night and marauding monkeys by day, ship captain Glenn Madoginog was held for months at an Indonesian naval base before ending up in a cramped prison cell, sleeping alongside convicted murderers and child rapists.The Filipino father of four was one of dozens of captains held at the Batam naval base after being arrested for anchoring in Indonesian waters without a permit while waiting to enter Singapore, according to a dozen people involved in the cases, including captains, ship owners, intermediaries and insurers.Most of the captains were freed after a few weeks once ship owners made unofficial payments to navy intermediaries of between $300…

Hamburg Süd Opens Office in Nanjing

On August 1, Hamburg Süd will open an office in Nanjing, China, to be headed by general manager Steven Pu. Hamburg Süd now operates from 20 locations in Greater China. All tasks previously carried out by the Ben Line agency will be taken over by the new Hamburg Süd office. This includes daily operations, as well as sales, customer order management and container and intermodal activities. Services to and from Nanjing will be operated using feeder ships from the ports of Shanghai and Ningbo.

Singapore and London Celebrate AXSDry4.0’s Launch

On Thursday 24th May, AXSMarine unveiled AXSDry4.0, a software to replace their current widely used AXSDry software, by hosting Launch parties in London and Singapore. On May 24th 2012, AXSMarine officially launched AXSDry4.0. The invitation only event gathered over 300 guests from the dry bulk industry. Companies who attended include Benline, BRS, Cargill, GFI, ICAP, Kline bulk, Navico, Noble, Oldendorff, Raffles, SSY and many other important players from the shipping industry. Held in two new trendy places, The Exchange (Singapore) and The Oyster Shed (London), the events gave guests the opportunity for a first look at the revamped chartering system.
