Shell Shelves Prince Rupert LNG
Royal Dutch Shell PLC has officially shelved its plans to build the Prince Rupert LNG project, which had been planned for Ridley Island in British Columbia. However, it is still considering the potential of its other West Coast LNG option. Shell acquired the Prince Rupert LNG as part of a portfolio of projects in its takeover of natural gas giant BG Group last year. Important Offshore Contract for Technip
Technip awarded an important EPCI contract for the G1200 to develop the Starfish field in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Technip wins a lump sum engineering, procurement, commissioning and installation (EPCI) contract with BG International Ltd (BG) for the development of the Starfish field. Located in the East Coast Marine Area, offshore Trinidad, the field lies at a water depth of approximately 130 meters and will be tied back to the existing Dolphin ‘A’ Platform operated by BG. Technip's operating center in Houston, Texas will perform the overall project management with detailed design being completed by Genesis, a wholly-owned Technip subsidiary. The umbilical will be manufactured by Technip’s Duco Inc.
Smit Plans Heaviest Ever Sheerlegs Lift
The 3,200 tonnes lift capacity Asian Hercules II returned to Norway in June to provide additional heavy lift assistance during the decommissioning of the Maureen platform. During March, the big sheerlegs lifted, transported and landed 11 Maureen platform modules at Aker Maritime's Stord facility over a two-week period. For the second visit, Asian Hercules II arrived at Stord on June 22. The scope of work involved three lifts, including a 600 tonnes conductor frame and two lattice frames, weighing 2,950 tonnes each. The latter will be the biggest single lifts ever executed by a SMIT sheerlegs. This breaks the December 2001 record, when Asian Hercules II lifted a 2,800 tonnes drilling module for ExxonMobil's Ringhorne platform.
