Sir Michael Bibby was elected President of the UK Chamber of Shipping at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in London. He becomes the Chamber’s 132nd president in its 140th year. John Denholm, chairman of J&J Denholm, was elected Vice-President at the meeting, which was attended by over 100 people from the Chamber’s member companies. Sir Michael is planning to step back from his position as Managing Director of Bibby Line Group during 2018 to allow him to better focus his time on external work interests, including his involvement with the UK Chamber. He used his inaugural speech as President to praise the Chamber’s rising political and media influence, and its success with the SMarT Plus campaign, a joint proposal with Nautilus that became Government policy in February.

The service operations vessel (SOV) Bibby WaveMaster 1 was officially launched at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania on March 24. When completed, Bibby Marine Services Limited, part of Bibby Line Group, will deploy the vessel to support forthcoming offshore wind construction and O&M projects in the North Sea. Babcock has completed a contract to undertake a substantial refit on Bibby Offshore’s dive support vessel (DSV), Polaris, at its Rosyth dockyard. The project was Bibby’s largest ever refit package and underlines Babcock’s move to expand its role in the maintenance and refitting of complex oil and gas support ships. The Bibby Polaris vessel is one of Bibby’s international fleet consisting of eight subsea support vessels, including the most modern fleet of DSVs in the North Sea.

Intrepid trekkers – Jess Kramer, Sarah Ryan, Nicky Davenport and Sandra Corrigan have just arrived home from a trip of a lifetime. All four Bibby Ship Management (BSM) Isle of Man employees took part in the Bibby Line Group ‘Giving Something Back’ Dalai Lama Trek in India, in October. The five day trek saw the team reach an altitude of 3,500 meters, camping in some extreme weather, however with such a fantastic support crew keeping the team firmly on the ground the trip was a great success.

Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd announced the appointment of Mark Robertshaw as its new Commercial Director, joining the business on September 23, 2013. His responsibilities will also include the role of new Managing Director for Bibby Ship Management’s Western Europe office, based in the Isle of Man. Mr. Robertshaw, a shipping and marine professional, is joining the business from Faststream Recruitment, where he set up its new Asian operation and took responsibility for sales performance for the region.

Bibby Offshore U.K. Ltd signed a nonexclusive ship agency services contract with GAC covering all ports in the U.K. and making the Group their first choice of provider elsewhere worldwide. Aberdeen-based Bibby Offshore U.K. Ltd is a subsidiary of the Bibby Line Group, providing solutions to the oil and gas sector operating in the North Sea. The deal with GAC has been signed just as Bibby Offshore U.K. embarks on a five-year growth plan that will see the expansion of its fleet of offshore construction vessels and ROV systems.

Fast-growing Bibby Ship Management has relocated its Far Eastern and Indian operations to new, larger premises in key strategic locations, ensuring the company is ideally placed to service the needs of its customers worldwide. Bibby Ship Management’s new office in India is situated in Mumbai, the heart of Indian seafaring trade and industry. Aberdeen-based subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has announced investment of around £11million in Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems for its latest division, Bibby Remote Intervention Limited (BRIL). Initial investment of close to £4million has been made in ROV systems for Bibby Offshore’s fleet of Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) to bring the service provision in-house, while 46 jobs have been created on and offshore within the division already this year.
