Tech File: Schottel SRP 710 for KPA Salvage Tug

A pair of Schottel RudderPropellers type SRP 710 have left the German production site in Wismar and are on their way to the Turkish shipyard Med Marine for installation in a new tug. The salvage tug, which has been ordered by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will be equipped with main and auxiliary propulsion systems from Schottel . Schottel to Equip Kenya's Powerful New Tug

German propulsion systems manufacturer Schottel says it has secured a contract with Turkish shipyard Med Marine to provide azimuth thrusters for a powerful new salvage tug ordered by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). The vessel will be equipped with main and auxiliary propulsion systems from Schottel, achieving a bollard pull of more than 120 tonnes. Ship Vettings Reveal Gasket & Pump Deficiencies

London P&I Club issues warning on manhole gasket and bilge pump shortcomings. THE London P&I Club has reported a growing incidence of shortcomings with regard to the condition of manhole cover gaskets on board ships. Bibby Renaissance Delivered

ALMACO delivered the 336-cabin accommodation vessel Bibby Renaissance to Bibby Maritime Ltd. ALMACO Group provided a total turnkey package to Bibby Renaissance which incorporated structural construction as well as the total outfitting of the vessel with accommodations, food handling, and additional Systems. The project involved widening the vessel, originally an empty steel pontoon, by approximately 18 ft. The existing top-side accommodation structure was split longitudinally in half, leaving the port-side part of the structure in its existing place.

Dresser Gets ABS Fire Rated Approval from

Dresser has been granted ABS Type Approval for fire rated couplings that meet or exceed the previous 2008 ABS rule changes. Typical applications for the ABS approved Dresser coupling include above deck inert gas lines, cargo oil lines, bilge systems, fuel oil transfers, and lube oil transfer systems. Each authentic Dresser approved coupling can be qualified to a working pressure of 19.2bar (275 PSI). Fire testing has been successfully conducted to the stringent guidelines of ISO 19921 & 19922 requirements. Dresser couplings are used for marine piping systems for their ability to absorb vibration, expansion and contraction while providing lifetime, leak-proof dependability. (www.dresser.com)

Bollinger To Construct Supply Boat Trio

Bollinger Shipyards has commenced construction of three 145 ft. (44.1 m) supply/utility boats for Bordelon Marine - doubling the number of OSV's for the Lockport-based operator. The new vessels, all of which will hold the namesake of a Bordelon family member, will be known as Wes Bordelon, Terry Bordelon and Bunny Bordelon. Scott Theriot, executive vice president New Construction of Bollinger said, "These new 145's are truly all-purpose and continue to meet and exceed industry requirements. The 145 footers will each have a beam of 36 ft. (10.9 m) and a maximum draft of 12 ft. (3.6 m) - normal operating draft will be eight ft. Bollinger Delivers Bordelon Boat

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered the 145-ft. supply/utility boat WES BORDELON to Bordelon Marine, Inc. It is the first of three nearly identical supply/utility vessels under construction at Bollinger for Bordelon, which will double the number of oil field support vessels (OSV) in the fleet of the Lockport-based vessel operator. Speaking at the recent christening of the boat on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, Bordelon's CEO, Terry Bordelon said, "We chose Bollinger as our partner in designing and building this boat. Boysie (Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger) gave us insightful thoughts into what customers would want now and in the future along with the new requirements of the various regulatory bodies.
