Northrop Grumman to Supply Icebreaker Navigation Package

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a service contract for navigation systems and software to support the polar ice breakers for the U. S. Coast Guard. The $5 million, five-year contract covers support for two Coast Guard vessels, the Polar Star and the Healy. These polar ice breakers are used to clear pathways for supply ships and support research missions. Northrop Grumman has provided comparable support for the Coast Guard's polar ice breakers since 1999. Northrop Grumman will supply hardware configuration management, remote technical support and training classes.

Northrop Grumman to Supply Steering for USN Destroyers

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded contracts totaling $14.4 million by prime contractors General Dynamics Bath Iron Works and Huntington Ingalls Industries to supply the steering gear system for three new DDG 51 Class Arleigh Burke destroyers. The steering gear system is vital for the control and maneuverability of the ship and is directly linked to the integrated bridge, as well as the navigation and inertial navigation systems that Northrop Grumman is supplying under separate contracts for the DDG 51 Class destroyers. Northrop Grumman has been the sole provider of the steering gear system for the DDG 51 Class since production began during the 1980s. This contract award brings the program's total to 69 steering systems.

Northrop Grumman Honors Employees Lost in 'USS Thresher'

Northrop Grumman Corporation has donated $5,000 toward construction of a memorial to the Navy submarine 'USS Thresher'. The company has made this donation in memory of two employees who perished when the Thresher sank in the Atlantic Ocean 50 years ago. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine employees Kenneth R. Corcoran and Donald T. Stadtmuller were performing work on the Thresher's gyroscope when the submarine sank during deep-diving tests approximately 200 miles off New England in April 1963. All 129 military crewmen and civilian technicians onboard perished.

Northrop Grumman Awarded In-Service Support Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected by Canada's Department of National Defence (DND) to provide in-service support for the MK-49 inertial navigation systems and navigation data distribution systems fielded aboard surface ships and submarines of the Royal Canadian Navy. The $12.1 million contract, awarded by Public Works Government Services Canada, includes material spares and software maintenance for the next five years. This is the fourth in-service support contract that Northrop Grumman has received from the DND since 2001.

Northrop Grumman Donates Latest VMS to US Naval Academy Foundation

U.S. Naval Academy Foundation receives plus US$1-million In voyage management software from Northrop Grumman's Maritime Systems Business Unit. Northrop Grumman is donating the newest version of its VMS, which incorporates the Electronic Chart Display Information System-Navy (ECDIS-N) technology that has been selected by the Navigator of the Navy and is now the fleet standard. This version is currently installed, or under contract and scheduled for installation, on more than 200 U.S. Navy ships and submarines. Jeff Holloway, site director of Northrop Grumman Maritime Systems in Charlottesville, as well as a retired career naval officer, former Naval Academy instructor and graduate of the class of 1977, spearheaded the gift-in-kind donation.
