Chinese Shipyard Notified to Halt on Rig Jack-up System

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore has been notified by Friede & Goldman Marketing BV (F&G) to temporarily suspend construction of its rig jacking systems. Arising from the recent accident during the construction of a similar rig at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, Prospector Offshore Drilling S.A. which has four jack-up rigs  under construction in Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co. Ltd. (DSIC-Offshore), has been informed that DSIC-Offshore has been notified by Friede & Goldman Marketing BV (F&G) to temporarily suspend work on the rigsā€™ jacking systems, pending testing. F&G is the engineering firm that has designed the jack-up and which has supplied the entire jacking system through their own sub-suppliers.

Keppel FELS to Deliver KFELS Super B Class Jackup

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) is on course to deliver another KFELS Super B Class jackup drilling rig to repeat customer, Sinvest ASA (Sinvest) on time and within budget. Mrs Evelynn Worum, Lady Sponsor and wife of Mr Geir Worum, Chairman of Sinvest, named the rig Deep Driller 3 at a ceremony on 14 October 2006 at Keppel FELS. The jackup drilling rig is the second of five KFELS Super B Class rigs that Keppel FELS is constructing for Sinvest. The first rig, Deep Driller 2, was delivered on time in April 2006.

U.S. Navy To Pay Cheney's Utility Bill?

The White House is asking the U.S. Navy to pay the six-figure utility bill for Vice President Dick Cheney's house, as Democrats accused Cheney, the administration's point man on energy policy, of "staggering insensitivity." The bill for electricity, gas and water for the 33-room official vice presidential residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory is projected at $136,000 for fiscal 2002 which ends in September, compared with a budget of $43,600, the White House said. The bills have far outstripped the budget since an electricity meter was installed in 1998, the White House said. This has driven Cheney to practice the energy conservationā€¦
