Rolls-Royce to Supply Engines for First Seabed Mining Vessel
Rolls-Royce has secured a landmark agreement to supply six of its new B33:45 medium-speed diesel generator sets to China’s Fuijan Mawei shipyard for configuration aboard the world’s first ever seabed mining vessel. Bedeschi Bags Cargo Handling Equipment Order
An order for cargo handling equipment to be used on Nautilus Minerals’ production support vessel has been awarded to Italy’s Bedeschi SPA, marking the second major equipment contract to be awarded by the shipyard, Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Limited. The cargo handling system will be used on the production support vessel to load the dewatered material into four storage holds and is designed to recover the material from the storage holds and transfer it directly to a handymax vessel for shipment of the material to China. Ship Engines, Thruster Packages Awarded
Nautilus Minerals Inc. announced that the order for the engines and thruster packages for the company’s production support vessel has been awarded to Rolls Royce Marine of Norway. The order, which secures the main engines, azimuth and tunnel thrusters, is the first major package to be awarded by the shipyard, Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Limited. Nautilus announced last year it had entered into an agreement with Marine Assets Corporation (MAC), for the charter of a vessel to be first deployed for use at the Solwara 1 Project (Project) and that MAC had entered into a contract with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd., to design and construct the vessel in accordance with Nautilus' specifications.

Today in U.S. Naval History - February 21 1944 - Marines with support of naval bombardment and carrier aircraft secure Eniwetok atoll 1945 - USS Bismarck Sea (CVE-95) struck by a kamikaze off Iwo Jima and sunk in 90 minutes with loss of 318 men. USS Saratoga (CV-3) struck by five kamikazes but survived with loss of 123. Bismarck Sea was last carrier lost in combat during World War II. Nautilus Minerals Completes Drilling Program
Nautilus Minerals has completed its 2010/11 seafloor drilling program, with the vessel, REM Etive, having demobilized in Singapore on May 16, 2011. During the drilling program in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea, Nautilus completed a 99 hole diamond drilling project, for a total of 1475 metres. Drilling was focused within the area of the Mining Lease (ML154) recently granted to Nautilus, which contains the Solwara 1 deposit and the Solwara 5 seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) discovery. A total of 71 holes was drilled in ML154, for 1147 metres.
Nautilus Forms Strategic Partnership, Secures Vessel
Toronto, Ontario, April 13, 2011 - Nautilus Minerals’ plan to open a new frontier of seafloor resource production has taken a major step forward, with the formation of a strategic partnership with German shipping company Harren & Partner (“Harren”). A joint venture company (the “Vessel JV”) is to be formed to own and operate a production support vessel which will serve as the operational base for Nautilus to produce high grade copper and gold ore at its first development project, Solwara 1, in the Bismarck Sea of Papua New Guinea (“PNG”).
