Aberdeen-based, BMT Cordah, a subsidiary of the BMT Group, an international maritime design, environmental and engineering consultancy, has announced the appointment of Norman Di Perno as its Managing Director. Dr David Sell, who has been the company’s Managing Director for the past four and a half years, will take up the role of Technical Director. With a background in environmental engineering and hydrogeology, Di Perno’s  focus for the business will be to further enhance its global reach as a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy for the offshore oil and gas and marine renewable sectors. Di Perno has held both Managing Director and Director positions throughout his career and has worked within the BMT group of companies since 2000.

BMT Cordah won a contract by Canadian Natural Resources International (CNRI). This project will see BMT provide vital support and guidance for the environmental aspects during two of CNRI’s decommissioning projects, both of which are currently in the planning and consenting phase. CNRI’s Murchison and Ninian Northern fields located in the northern North Sea have both been in operation since the early 1980’s. The BMT Group, maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, announced the merger of three companies, BMT SeaTech, BMT Argoss and the Southampton and Polish businesses of BMT Cordah. The merged entity will retain the name of BMT Argoss. The capabilities of each company are being brought together to offer customers full turn-key solutions. In the Oil and Gas sector, BMT is working with oil majors to provide environmental information, particularly in harsh environments such as strong currents, high waves, ice, etc. Information systems are providing input at the planning and design stages as well as supporting day to day operations.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reached a critical milestone for the Canal Expansion Program moving ahead on time and on budget. Culminating months of arduous work, the ACP received Grupo Unidos por el Canal’s (GUPC) performance and payment bonds and signed the contract. All operators on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) may soon have to pay to report their energy, emissions, waste and chemical data to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) via the Environmental Emissions Monitoring System (EEMS),  BMT Cordah Ltd, a leading independent environmental consultancy firm, has warned. Operators are legally required to submit this information to the DECC. Until now operators have not had to pay to report the data to EEMS via Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets. However, at the end of next month (30th June), Collabro, the company which produces the spreadsheets and manages EEMS, is to stop providing these spreadsheets free of charge.

Companies exporting chemicals to the EU should include documentation proving they have met all current REACH obligations, REACH experts of BMT Group subsidiaries BMT Designers & Planners and BMT Cordah Ltd, have warned. The warning comes after a shipment of chemicals from one of BMT’s US clients was delayed at customs at an EU port as officials demanded evidence of pre-registration and compliance with the EU REACH regulation. However, according to the UK Competent Authority for REACH, the Health and Safety Executive, the regulation does not require evidence of pre-registration to be provided either to the customer (in this case the importer) or to the customs authorities.
