RINA Launches Engineers Development Programme

The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) is delighted to announce the first of a portfolio of soft skills courses tailored to the needs of engineers called Effective Presentations and Networking which will take place on July 29th 2015 at RINA headquarters in London. This one day course introduces engineers from all disciplines to the fundamentals of how to communicate in business effectively, with a specific focus on customer and colleague engagement through enhanced presentation and networking skills. The course was developed following a survey of RINA members asking them if such training would be useful to them and their teams and what learning outcomes they would look for. It has been shaped by survey feedback and the subsequent pilot run at RINA headquarters.

BMT Defense Applies NAPA Software in New Vessel Design

Naval design and engineering company BMT Defense Services Ltd. included a software package created by maritime software house NAPA during the design process for the new logistics and support vessel (LSV) ordered by the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization (NDLO). Naval architects have applied NAPA for Design to the vessel's stability and hydrodynamics modeling to produce a compartmentation model that can provide hull form throughout the design process to production. The model will support the lifetime eco-efficiency of the vessel, either in combination with NAPA for Operations systems and the NAPA Loading Computer, or as a standalone system that provides vital information on the vessel when it cannot be observed.

BMT Awarded NDLO Ship Design Contract

BMT Defence Services Ltd , a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has announced that it has been confirmed as design contractor for the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation ’s (NDLO) logistics and support vessel (LSV), supported by sister companies BMT Reliability Consultants Ltd and BMT Isis Ltd. The auxiliary vessel, designed to cover a multitude of roles and to be built by DSME in their Okpo yard, will measure 180 metres in length, 26 metres in beam, and have a displacement of over 26,000tonnes.

BMT Isis Validates Approach Channel Design for New Aircraft Carriers

BMT Isis Ltd., a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., has announced the completion of its latest project to validate BMT’s design for the Portsmouth Approach Channel, a design conceived to ensure that the Royal Navy’s new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, can transit safely into and out of their home base at HMNB Portsmouth.
