FCI Watermakers Upgrades Its V4 Controller

Like any other modern shipboard system, watermakers rely on electronics for continued trouble-free operation, monitoring and automated self-maintenance. FCI Watermakers said it has enhanced its V4 Controller, upgrading the controller's firmware. The improvement increases screen response speed and provides an enhanced graphics-based visualization, or HMI (human machine interface), the manufacturer said. MTU Diesel Gensets Ordered for UK Combat Ships

Rolls-Royce is to supply 12 MTU diesel gensets to prime contractor BAE Systems for the first three Type 26 Global Combat Ships due to go into service with the U.K Royal Navy. The deal means that the core components of the frigate’s combined propulsion system will come from Rolls-Royce: four MTU diesel gensets with 20V 4000 M53B engines, each delivering 3,015 kW of mechanical power, and one Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine. The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The Type 26 Global Combat Ship is the first newly-designed Royal Navy surface vessel to be equipped with MTU engines.

New M-Series Thermal Night Vision System

FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced the release of its new single payload variant of the popular M-Series maritime thermal night vision camera. By offering an M-Series model without the lowlight micro-lux camera, FLIR is able to make M-Series’ features available at a lower price. This new addition to the M-Series line provides a 50% improvement in range performance. This increased range performance enables users to see navigation hazards like channel markers, outcroppings of land, other boats, and people in the water more clearly.
