Prosecutors Summon DSME CFO
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office summoned the chief financial officer (CFO) of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME ) today (Friday) over his alleged involvement in the financially troubled company’s accounting fraud. As per a report in Korea Herald, the Seoul prosecutors called Kim Youl-jung, 58, for questioning on allegations that he cooked the books to cover up the company's operating losses. S. Korea Navy Chief Quizzed About Salvage Ship Absence
The state audit agency has interrogated the chief of the Navy over a faulty Navy salvage ship that failed to participate in the national rescue operation for the ferry Sewol that sank off the southwest coast in April according to an unnamed source cited by Yonhap News Agency. The interrogation of Navy Chief Adm. Hwang Ki-chul is part of the Board of Audit and Inspection's probe into the military's project to construct the first South Korean-built salvage ship Tongyeong, according to the source. The military completed the construction of the salvage ship with local shipbuilder Daweoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 2012, but the military has refused to take over the vessel, citing its insufficient sonar system as well as a remotely operated vehicle for underwater maneuvers.

Japanese Shipbuilders Warned Over Bid Rigging
According to a report from the Kyodo News Service, eight shipbuilders were warned by the government's competition policy watchdog over alleged bid rigging on defense contracts. The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) said it issued the warning over what it deems were acts to unfairly restrict competition for contracts from the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) concerning the force's fleet between fiscal 1996 and fiscal 1999. The eight are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd., Hakodate Dock Co., Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., NKK Corp., Sasebo Heavy Industries Co. and Hitachi Zosen Corp.
