Next US Energy Boom Could Be Wind Power in the Gulf of Mexico

With passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which contains US$370 billion for climate and energy programs, policy experts are forecasting a big expansion in clean electricity generation. One source that’s poised for growth is offshore wind power.Today the U.S. has just two operating offshore wind farms, off of Rhode Island and Virginia, with a combined generating capacity of 42 megawatts. For comparison, the new Traverse Wind Energy Center in Oklahoma has 356 turbines and a 998-megawatt generating capacity.

Vessel Inspections: It's All About Safety

With the announcements that New York Waterway, a ferry operator running 32 boats around New York and New Jersey waters, had been largely shut down by the U.S. Coast Guard just prior to Thanksgiving, 2019, the reactions ranged from surprise to outright shock. There was also a great deal of grumbling, as commuters, the major customer group, endured delays on New York Waterway’s extensive network across the Hudson River, bringing New Jersey commuters into New York’s business districts.So, what happened?

Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha Starts Operations

Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen (NYK Line) announced that its two subsidiaries Wing Maritime Service Corporation and Kaiyo Kogyo Corporation that provide harbor tugboat and other related services, merged today to form Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha Corporation.The 100percent NYK owned Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha Corporation officially began operations yesterday (July 1, 2019), said the statement.Shin-Nippon president Yukihiro Tatara said: “Wing Maritime Service Corporation has mainly provided tugboat services and escort services in the Yokohama, Kawasaki, and Chiba areas.

PDVSA Insists it's Still Working with BSM

Venezuela's state-run oil company PDVSA said on Thursday it has not halted business with maritime firm Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), even after the German firm said it would remove the crews that have been operating 10 of 15 PDVSA vessels over unpaid fees and return the tankers.On Tuesday, PDVSA's maritime arm PDV Marina declared an emergency due to lack of staff to immediately receive the 10 vessels BSM proposed to return to Venezuelan ports due to unpaid bills of at least $15 million.Three other vessels that had been operated by BSM for PDVSA remain anchored in Portugal and Curacao until the resolution of legal disputes linked to fees that PDVSA owes to maritime agencies, port authorities and shipyards."Our subsidiary PDV Marina continues working with BSM...

DP World to Develop Ukraine Logistics

Global trade enabler DP World has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Ukraine to collaborate on matters of mutual interest, including the development of logistics capability in the country. On a recent visit to Ukraine, DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem signed the MoU with the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan and later met with President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, senior ministers and officials. At the meetings, Mr. Bin Sulayem also delivered a letter of intent from DP World for its P&O Maritime subsidiary to develop the tug and pilot boat services of Odessa port on the Black Sea.

UK Marine Industry Continues Growth

The U.K. leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry continue to grow, according to new statistics published today by British Marine at the London Boat Show 2016. Growth in domestic consumer markets has helped off-set a tricky year for exporters who are still feeling the effects of a sluggish Eurozone and the wider global economic conditions felt by most U.K. business sectors. Inland hire, charter and passenger boat services have performed particularly well, capitalising on the increasing popularity of the U.K. with international visitors and the growth in U.K.

Use of Tug Boat Services in Bangkok Port

Request for PAT tug boat service must be made for berthing at: East Quay Berths (No. - Vessels with LOA exceeding 250 ft. must use at least one tug boat of 1200 HP up. West Quay Berths (No. - Vessels with LOA 250 - 450 ft. - Vessels with LOA exceeding 450 ft. - Vessels with bow thruster or stern thruster must use at least one tug boat of 1200 HP up. For midstream dolphin mooring, at least two tug boats of 1200 HP up must be used. - For midstream buoy mooring, at least one tug boat of 1200 HP up must be used. For other vessels with LOA not exceeding 250 ft., if the master judges that the vessel could berth at the terminal quay or moor at midstream safely he could do so without requesting tug boat service.

Tidewater Provides Update on Sonatide Joint Venture

Tidewater Inc. announced today the following update with respect to its negotiations with Sonangol, the national oil company of Angola, regarding Sonatide, the joint venture between Sonangol and Tidewater through which Tidewater markets its boat services to energy companies for operation in the waters offshore Angola. Tidewater has a 49% ownership interest in Sonatide. The Company has previously announced that its Sonatide joint venture agreement with Sonangol expires on March 31, 2012. The Company has from time to time provided updates regarding the status of its continuing negotiations with Sonangol to put its Sonatide joint venture on a more permanent footing after a number of temporary extensions of the original joint venture agreement.

Incat Crowther Designs Catamaran Work Boat

The Unlimited is the 20th Incat Crowther design built by Richardson Devine Marine. A 78.7 ft catamaran work boat, the Unlimited was built for Offshore Unlimited, who provide comprehensive offshore services, including oil rig supply, survey ship re-supply and chase boat services, around Australia. The platform is based on the successful Incat Crowther catamaran hull form which has been heavily utilized in ferries, motor yachts and work boats around the world over the last decade.

Incat Crowther to Design Workboat

Incat Crowther will design a 24m Catamaran Work Boat for Offshore Unlimited, which is to be built at the new Richardson Devine Marine facility in Hobart, Tasmania. The design will be based on Incat Crowther's recent successes in catamaran work boat design. The vessel will be a 24 m high speed catamaran work boat capable of carrying 50 tons of deadweight with a service speed of 26 knots. The main deck, which will have a carrying capacity of 24 tons, will be arranged for multiple uses and will include a moonpool for exploration services and the ability to carry a 20 ft. container.

Hercules Offshore Reports Q3 Earnings Rise

Hercules Offshore Inc. a provider of shallow-water drilling and lift boat services to the oil and natural gas exploration and production industry, announced financial results for its third quarter, reporting increased profit from higher revenues. The Houston, Texas-based company reported third net income of $29.7 million or $0.90 per share, compared to $10.1 million or $0.41 per share in the third quarter of 2005. Quarterly revenues grew to $97.2 million from $42.2 million in the corresponding quarter prior year. During the third quarter revenues from Domestic Contract Drilling Services were $46.4 million, compared to revenues of $28.2 million in the third quarter of 2005. International Contract Drilling Services revenues were $7.9 million in the third quarter of 2006.
