Fred. Olsen to Install TWB II Turbines

Offshore wind farm vessels provider Fred. Olsen Windcarrier announced that its jack-up vessel Blue Tern has been contracted to finish installing the remaining 11 Senvion 6.2M152 turbines on the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB II).“We are looking forward to working with our new client and to get the chance to support the finalization of the Trianel wind farm with our jack-up vessel Blue Tern. Blue Tern is ideal for this project due to her capacity”, said Kristina Pind Løvgren, Head of Nautical, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.Kristina added: "Our related company, Global Wind Service, is already on the project and delivers technicians, QA and Site Management for the installation and mechanical completion of the turbines.

Deutsche Bucht Offshore Wind Substation Nears Completion

Ten months after the final assembly of the offshore substation (OSS) for the new Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm started at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSV), the substation topside has now been moved outside the construction hall so that further outfitting can take place.The Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm, owned by Northland Power, will have 33 turbines, situated 95 kilometers northwest of Germany’s Borkum Island, in the North Sea. Smulders Updates Deutsche Bucht Offshore Wind Farm

Smulders, acting for and on behalf of the JV Iemants-Eiffage, has reached the next step in the realization of the substation for the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm.Ten months after starting the final assembly in January 2018 at the yard of Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen, the substation topside was driven outside for further outfitting on 21 October. Offshore installation is planned in the first half of 2019.The topside will be installed on top of the 60 meter high jacket foundation, which is also being built by Smulders.The Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm will be an impressive wind farm with 33 turbines, situated 95 kilometres northwest of the Borkum Island in Germany.

Coming soon: German LNG-powered Ferries

Germany’s AG-Ems is preparing to put two liquefied natural gas-diesel dual fuel ferries into operation for the summer season in the North Sea for the first time. They both are powered by Wärtsilä 20DF engines, with fuel to be supplied by Bomin Linde. The 305-foot Ostfriesland is in the final stages of conversion to LNG power at Germany’s BVT (Brenn-und-Verformungstechnik Bremen GmbH) shipyard using two 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel generating sets driving an electric propulsion system. Ostfriesland has a Wärtsilä LNGPac fuel system. According to AG-Ems technical director Claus Hirsh, the retrofitted ferry is to resume service between Germany’s Emden (west of Hamburg) and Borkum Island in the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park in April.

Bestobell Secures First Deal Following Wärtsilä Agreement

Bestobell Valves, part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), based in Sheffield, U.K., has received its first order from Wärtsilä Gas Power Systems (GPS), the gas power solutions provider for the global marine and energy markets. German Ferry Switches to Dual-fuel Engines

Wärtsilä has been awarded an important retrofitting contract by the German shipyard, BVT - Brenn - und Verformungstechnik Bremen GmbH. The project entails converting the m/v Ostfriesland, a car and passenger ferry owned by Aktien-Gesellschaft "EMS", so that it can utilise liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. The vessel sails between Emden and Borkum Island on the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park, an ecologically sensitive UNESCO World Heritage listed area in the southeastern part of the North Sea, and the retrofit will significantly reduce the ship's environmental impact.
