Israel Says It's Ready to Let Ships Bring Aid to Gaza

Israel is prepared to let ships deliver aid to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip "immediately" as part of a proposed sea corridor from Cyprus, the Israeli foreign minister said on Sunday, naming four European countries as potential participants.Under the arrangement first suggested by Nicosia in November, cargo would undergo security inspection in the Cypriot port of Larnaca before being ferried to the Gaza coast, 370 km (230 miles) away, rather than through neighbouring Egypt or Israel.If the plan goes ahead

Mainstay Marine to Build Crew Transfer Vessel for Seacat Services

Offshore energy support vessel operator Seacat Services has partnered up with marine engineering firm Mainstay Marine Solutions, to build the 20th vessel in its fleet, and the fifth Seacat Chartwell Ambitious design.The partnership comes amidst ongoing complexities in the UK shipbuilding market, where skill shortages and a lack of financial support from the UK Government have driven up manufacturing costs and derailed local content goals across the industry, Seacat Services, which specializes in offshore crew transfers

In a First, Scottish Port Set to Offer Shore Power for Offshore Vessels

Montrose Port Authority says the port is set to become the first Scottish port to provide shore power infrastructure to the energy sector.To enable shore power to offshore energy industry vessels, the port has partnered with with Plug Shore Power Ltd in a 50/50 joint venture. The partnership will see an initial investment of £1 million into the joint venture which will be named Plug Montrose Ltd."Global shipping accounted for 833 million tonnes of CO2 in 2021. Currently only two British ports are equipped with shore power.

Aurelia’s 100% Hydrogen-powered Design Gets RINA Approval

Aurelia Green Ship Concept Design's newly unveiled ship design featuring 100% hydrogen propulsion has received approval in principle (AIP) from RINA based on the newly published RINA Rules for Hydrogen Fueled Ships and the RINA Guide for the Approval in Principle of Novel Technologies.The new design concept is the ACD01 1000, a RoRo vessel with electric propulsion using highly compressed H2 as fuel. Beyond the green design, the difference is marked by the ship's hydrogen-based engine system

Solstad Awarded AHTS Contract in Brazil

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Solstad Offshore ASA announced on Monday it has been awarded a new contract with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) for the 80.4-meter anchor handling tug supply vessel (AHTS) BOS Turquesa.The contract is three years firm, with options thereafter, for supporting exploration and production activities in Brazilian continental shelf.The 2007-built anchor handler is expected to commence work under the contract in the first quarter of 2022.

Enauta Charters Solstad AHTS for Atlanta Field Support

Brazilian oil company Enauta has chartered an anchor handling tug and supply vessel from Norway's Solstad Offshore.Solstad Offshore said Tuesday it had struck a deal with Enauta for the charter of the 2006-built AHTS Normand Turmalina (previously known as BOS Turmalina).Enauta will continue using the vessel it first chartered back in August 2017 to support operations at its Atlanta oil field in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.The contract is for 18 months firm, with Enauta having a 2-year extension option. The contract is expected to start in May 2021.The Atlanta field has been producing oil via Petrojarl I FPSO - as an early production system.

BP Orders BOS 2600 Offshore Crane

Ship cranes manufacturer Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH together with China's Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard signed a contract concerning the delivery of a board offshore crane, type BOS 2600.The German maritime cranes maker said BP will use the crane for supply and maintenance tasks on a jack-up accommodation platform off the coast of West Africa.The BOS 2600 is a compact and function-orientated crane design within the well-known Liebherr Offshore crane series and therefore the ideal solutions for platforms where space on deck is limited.“Because of the particular requirements of this project, we are pleased that CIMC Raffles awarded us the contract for the project.

Solstad Farstad Bags Contract with Fairfield Industries

Solstad Farstad ASA (SOFF) has entered into a contract with Fairfield Industries Inc. for the CSV “Normand Tonjer”. The contract will commence in 3Q 2018 and has a duration of one year firm plus two yearly options.Fairfield will use the vessel to support their innovative worldwide ocean bottom seismic survey using node-based technology.Solstad Farstad has updated other contracts too. The key contracts in the subsea construction segment include Far Saga contract extension with Petrobras until 2Q’20,  Nor Australis awarded 3 months contract with Magseis for operations in Southeast Asia and  Normand Installer renewal of frame agreement

Natural Ballast Set to Launch at SMM

The new system BOS Natural Ballast set to launch at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg has been engineered to ensure that ballast water discharge standards are met at all times during the uptake and discharge. Generally, most ballast water systems involve methods of filtering off bacteria and pathogen cells larger than 50 microns in the first stage, and then follow by the processes of actively killing the remaining bacteria and pathogens with treatment options such as UV light, electrochlorination

International Maritime Organization (IMO) fuel rules entering force in 2020 mandate a drastic sulfur reduction. By 2050 the mandate is to cut greenhouse gas emissions of shipping by at least 50 percent.Marine fuels, lubricants and additives manufacturers play their part in establishing maritime’s green credentials by introducing new environmentally acceptable technologies and products.The shipping industry is more than ever portrayed in a bad light due to increasing awareness of its contribution to global climate change, according to Dirk Kronmeijer, CEO of GoodFuels Marine.

SolstadFarstad Bags Vessel Contracts

Solstad Farstad ASA (SolstadFarstad) entered a contract for the PSV, Far Solitaire, with Aker BP for a period of three months firm with further three months option, commencement of contract is mid-January 2018. In addition, Petrobas - Petróleo Brasileiro S.A has extended the present contract for AHTS BOS Topazio with 180 days to February 2019. Meanwhile, Farstad Supply AS, a wholly owned subsidiary of SolstadFarstad, has sold the AHTS Far Grip (1993 built, 14.389 BHP). The vessel was delivered to the new owner on December 12.

BOS Rolls Out New Engine Performance Software

Blue Ocean Solutions (BOS) has introduced new Engine Performance Software designed to provide ship operators with a holistic insight into the operating condition and efficiency of the ship’s engine. The software verifies the fuel savings gained from BOS’ Emulsified Fuel System (EFS), and will be delivered as an add-on to the EFS at no additional cost. The software also evaluates the engine condition against factory test data and establishes current trending profile (patent pending) for preventive maintenance, restoring fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. “We are dedicated to improve continuously and add value to our customers through innovations. Cleaner Exhaust with BOS Technology

Answering to a stronger drive in the maritime industry to reduce polluting and harmful soot, Blue Ocean Solutions’ (BOS) Emulsified Fuel System (EFS) cleans exhaust and reduces PM emissions. According to BOS, is a Singapore-headquartered subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine, its system reduces NOx emissions due to cooler combustion as well as cleaner exhaust and reduced PM emissions. The better combustion and presence of steam reduces and softens the soot, resulting in cleaner exhaust. This is evident visibly in the emission from the funnel.

Liebherr Offshore Crane on “Giant 7”

The Liebherr offshore crane division installed a board offshore crane, type BOS 35000 on the heavy lift barge “Giant 7”. The state of the art offshore crane will be used for wind plant installation in the Baltic Sea region. The entire project starting from design through manufacturing to final assembly and testing has been conducted in the company’s production site in Rostock, northern Germany. The crane was especially developed for the use on the “Giant 7”, a heavy lift barge. On arrival at the Liebherr Rostock facility in January, the crane installation started immediately. The biggest challenge when assembling heavy lift giants like the BOS 35000 is the handling of oversized parts. The lattice boom is 78 meters long. Its weight amounts more than 250 tonnes.

Farstad Bags Petrobras Contract

Norwegian provider of offshore service vessels for the oil and gas industry Farstad Shipping ASA has entered into two charter contracts in Brazil. Both vessels were hired by the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petróleo Brasileiro, more commonly known as Petrobras. Petrobras has awarded the PSV Far Strider (1999, VS 483, 4,709 DWT) a 4 year contract with expected commencement in April 2016. Petrobras has also awarded the AHTS BOS Turquesa (2007, UT 722 L, 18,088 BHP) a 1 year contract with a further 1 year option. The vessel has commenced the contract. "This is positive for the company, and a confirmation that we are succeeding in a demanding market," says Karl-Johan Bakken, CEO of Farstad Shipping ASA.

BMT Inks Contract with Witteveen+Bos

BMT ARGOSS, (BMT) a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has secured a new contract with Dutch-based engineering consultancy, Witteveen+Bos (W+B), to provide specialist knowledge for the new ‘stay overnight’ harbour near Giesbeek, along the IJssel branch of the river Rhine. The new harbour is part of Rijkswaterstaat’s (the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment) aim to develop a number of similar resting facilities for inland vessel crews on the river Rhine, the most important inland waterway in Western Europe.

Bibby Offshore Secures Contract with MGTC

Bibby Offshore announced today that its Asian Division, Bibby Offshore Singapore (‘BOS’), has secured a contract with the Moattama Gas Transportation Company (“MGTC”). MGTC, a joint venture between Total (operator), Unocal, PTT-EP and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, has appointed BOS to provide ROV pipeline inspection, remedial work and associated project management on its South East Asia asset offshore Myanmar. Bibby Offshore will supply its DP2 ROV support vessel, Bibby Spring.

Liebherr Reports Record Year for Offshore Cranes

With 87 units delivered in 2014, Liebherr offshore cranes achieved a new per year delivery record, more than doubling its delivery numbers from 2012. And according to Liebherr, well filled order books allow for an optimistic 2015 forecast despite a generally unstable world economic development. “Our distinctly increasing turnover figures wouldn’t be possible without our new production site in Rostock, Germany, as well as our worldwide sales and service network. We are all working together as a team, always close to the customer to meet new needs before they arise.

Mumbai Harbour wall berthing

With effect from 1 June 2014, Mumbai Harbour wall berthing at 18, 19, 20 and 21 Harbour Wall vessels will berth starboard side alongside and will have draft restriction of 8.5 meters. Vessels may berth port side alongside at 18 habour wall depending upon the weather and tidal conditions. BOS Provides 2-5% Fuel Savings

With consistent results of 2-5% fuel savings, Keppel Offshore & Marine’s subsidiary Blue Ocean Solutions (BOS) said that it has proved that emulsified fuel can bring significant fuel savings adding to the well established NOx reduction, if done correctly. The patented BOS Emulsified Fuel System (EFS) is designed to improve combustion efficiency by improving the injector fuel atomization. In addition to the measured fuel savings, firm evidence of better combustion has also been recorded in the form of increased heat release rate.
