Water Taxi Strikes Sailboat in Boston
A water taxi collided with a sailboat on a mooring ball Thursday afternoon near Long Wharf in Boston Harbor.Only one minor injury was reported, and the patient was treated and released at the scene.A U.S. Coast Guard Station Boston rescue crew along with the Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, and Massachusetts Environmental Police all responded to the scene at around 5 p.m.The water taxi had one operator and seven passengers. One passenger sustained a minor injury to his nose and was treated at the scene.
Box Ship Breaks from Mooring in Boston
The U.S. Coast Guard said it is investigating how a containership broke free from its mooring in Boston on Wednesday morning. The Coast Guard, along with Massport Fire Department, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and port tugs responded to 1,065-foot vessel, Helsinki Bridge, that broke free at the Paul W. Conley Container Terminal at around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Terminal workers aboard the ship at the time were able to safely disembark, and no injuries or pollution have been reported, the Coast Guard said. The incident caused some damage to the pier, local media reported. A docking pilot boarded the vessel and worked with the ship's crew to escort the Helsinki Bridge to Broad Sound where it remains anchored.

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port hosted a Model Port Boston meeting in which the project's partners signed a charter outlining its mission and goal. The boat, identified as Launch 35, is responsible for patrol, search and rescue, port security, diving and anti-terrorism activities in New York Harbor and the waters surrounding New York City. The SeaArk 35-ft. Dauntless is constructed of all-welded marine grade aluminum and features a deep vee variable deadrise hull that produces a smooth, dry and stable ride. Launch 35 is powered by twin Caterpillar 3126 inboard diesel engines, each rated @ 420 hp. Additional outfitting includes a Kohler generator, an ICOM VHF/FM radio, a Northstar chart plotter and a Furuno radar. For all-season crew comfort and operation, the boat includes heating and air conditioning.
