Water Taxi Strikes Sailboat in Boston

A water taxi collided with a sailboat on a mooring ball Thursday afternoon near Long Wharf in Boston Harbor.Only one minor injury was reported, and the patient was treated and released at the scene.A U.S. Coast Guard Station Boston rescue crew along with the Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, and Massachusetts Environmental Police all responded to the scene at around 5 p.m.The water taxi had one operator and seven passengers. One passenger sustained a minor injury to his nose and was treated at the scene.

Box Ship Breaks from Mooring in Boston

The U.S. Coast Guard said it is investigating how a containership broke free from its mooring in Boston on Wednesday morning.   The Coast Guard, along with Massport Fire Department, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and port tugs responded to 1,065-foot vessel, Helsinki Bridge, that broke free at the Paul W. Conley Container Terminal at around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.   Terminal workers aboard the ship at the time were able to safely disembark, and no injuries or pollution have been reported, the Coast Guard said.   The incident caused some damage to the pier, local media reported.   A docking pilot boarded the vessel and worked with the ship's crew to escort the Helsinki Bridge to Broad Sound where it remains anchored.

Maritime security and law enforcement experts are gathering in Boston this week to better understand maritime domain awareness and the challenges of port, waterway and coastal security, environmental protection, safety and law enforcement. Many government agencies and public safety dive teams are adding underwater search equipment to help make their operations easier, safer, and faster. Maricopa Sheriffs Department in Arizona, Downe Township Fire Rescue in New Jersey, the Fairhaven Massachusetts Harbor Master and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are a few of the diverse group of agencies using metal detectors, video cameras and sonars in their underwater search operations. Model Port Partners Sign Charter

The Coast Guard Captain of the Port hosted a Model Port Boston meeting in which the project's partners signed a charter outlining its mission and goal. The model port project, officially named Boston - A Model Port, is one of several Operation Safe Commerce projects underway across the country. In Boston, the project represents a coalition of state, local and federal agencies, and private sector businesses united to enhance port and transportation security while facilitating commerce. When the federal government began examining United States vulnerabilities in the days following the horrific terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, it quickly became apparent that significant weakness existed on the U.S. maritime borders. Many, but not all, of these weaknesses were systemic and derived from both the U.S. open society and the procedures underlying modern maritime commerce. The goal quickly became to reduce the risk of maritime terrorism while not fundamentally altering the efficiencies of the commercial system. SeaArk Delivers Patrol Boat to NYPD

SeaArk Marine, Inc. delivered a 35-ft. Dauntless Class patrol/rescue boat to the New York Police Department (NYPD) Harbor Unit. The boat, identified as Launch 35, is responsible for patrol, search and rescue, port security, diving and anti-terrorism activities in New York Harbor and the waters surrounding New York City. The SeaArk 35-ft. Dauntless is constructed of all-welded marine grade aluminum and features a deep vee variable deadrise hull that produces a smooth, dry and stable ride. Launch 35 is powered by twin Caterpillar 3126 inboard diesel engines, each rated @ 420 hp. Additional outfitting includes a Kohler generator, an ICOM VHF/FM radio, a Northstar chart plotter and a Furuno radar. For all-season crew comfort and operation, the boat includes heating and air conditioning.
